Chapter Five

*4 months later*

"Everything is fine, Nick." MacKenzie giggled into the mouthpiece.

After leaving Tampa, MacKenzie had since moved on past AJ, knowing that she was never going to see him again. She did however, start to feel very close to Nick which frightened her.

"I'm glad, how's Kirsten?"

"Good, still lonely and sad... still missing Brian."

"Well, Brian is still missing her too, he mopes around, he can't concentrate and he blows up at the littlest things. Are you sure you guys can't come back?"

"Positive, it'd be too painful for all of us."

Nick understood but it was hard to lie to his best friend when he saw all the pain he was in.

"So, how's AJ?" MacKenzie asked over curiousity.

"Decent in a mute kind of way."

"Decent? What do you mean?"

"He hardly talks, except on stage. He manages to look like nothings wrong but its obvious to us that he's lost without you."

MacKenzie grimaced, "I feel so bad for him, but even if it were possible for me to see him again, I don't have the same feelings for him as I did when we left."

Nick was silent for a moment, "Do you think I could get your address?"

"For?"

"Well, you know how we're on tour?"

"Mmmhmm..."

"Well, we stop in Maine in like...a week. I would love to come and see you and Kirsten."

"Fine, but promise not to tell them."

"Promise." She rattled off the address as he quickly scribbled it.

"Hang on, I think somethings wrong with Kirsten." She said frantically when she heard whimpering in the next room.

"What's wrong?"

"It's time," Kirsten said weakly.

"But it's too soon, you're not due for a month."

"Trust me, it's time."

MacKenzie ran to the phone, "Nick, she's gonna have the baby."

She hung up and scrambled to get Kirsten's things and they headed out the door.

*one week later*

"Yo, Brian, can you get my car keys outta the drawer?" Nick asked.

"yeah," Brian rumaged through Nick's keys and noticed out of the corner of his eye a piece of paper with Kirsten's name on it, he picked it up, curious.

"You knew?" He spat in Nick's face.

"Knew what?"

"Here I am going fucking crazy, not knowing where she is or how she is, and my best friend knew."

Nick was silent, "I promised," he finally managed.

"You promised? You promised?" Brian fumed.

"What the hell is going on in here?" AJ asked apparently irratated.

"You wanna know? You really wanna fucking know?" Brian asked him.

AJ noddded, "this...mother fucking asshole...knew, knew the whole g-ddamn time."

"Knew?"

"Kirsten...MacKenzie. He knew."

It was now AJ's turn to be infuriated but he wasn't. His face got very pale and he whispered, "Now,"

"Now what?" Nick was afriad, but asked.

"We're going to see them," AJ continued, "all of us."

*Kirsten & MacKenzie*

"Can you turn it down a few notches?" Kirsten asked MacKenzie of the t.v. "I just got Jaclyn asleep."

"You look cute today, what's the occasion?" Kirsten asked.

"Oh... thanks... I have a friend stopping by."

"Who?"

"Uh...Ni--"

She didn't have to answer because she knew that he was at the door.

She ran to the door and opened it and jumped into Nick's arms,"Nickkk!" then she opened her eyes, "and Brian and AJ?" she glared at Nick.

"Brian?!" Kirsten's voice rose from the couch.

'I'm sorry,' Nick mouthed.

AJ was silent. He did nothing but stare at MacKenzie.

Finally, Brian made the first move he made his way over to Kirsten.

"Why, baby?" He asked, tears stinging his eyes.

"G-d. I didn't want to," the tears were flowing freely from her eyes.

"Then why?" Kirsten collapsed on the couch sobbing.

"Feel free to answer..." AJ said bitterly to MacKenzie. MacKenzie's face remained like stone, "WHY?" AJ screamed.

Suddenly, everyone grew quite when they heard the sound of a baby crying.

"What the--" AJ said as he watched Kirsten stand up and walk to a room and emerge with a baby.

"Who is that?" AJ and Brian said at the same time.

Kirsten, Nick, & MacKenzie threw glances at one another, none knowing what to say.
