Chapter Six

"Who is that?" AJ repeated.

Kirsten held Jaclyn tightly, "this is Jacci," she whispered rocking the neworn in her arms.

Brian's eyes widened, "Is she...?"

"Mine?" Kirsten finished.

Brian swallowed and nodded.

"Yes...she's mine." Kirsten said, tears forming in her eyes once more.

"And who elses?" Brian choked.

Kirsten began to cry and Brian felt pain sweep through his body knowing that she wasn't his.

"Jacci is...AJ's baby." AJ stood open mouthed.

"She's mine?" AJ managed.

Brian looked up at Kirsten, "Is this why you left?"

Kirsten nodded, "I just...I didn't want you to hate me or leave me..."

"So you left? And took the love of my life with your, not to mention my child?!" AJ said angrily.

"We did what we thought was right," MacKenzie told him trying to keep him calm.

"By denying me the right to see my own child?" He gritted his teeth and made his way over to Kirsten. His face turned soft when he looked at the tiny sleeping infant.

"We've got a lot of talking to do," AJ told Kirsten.

She nodded, "and so do we," she said looking at Brian who didn't appear angry with her.

"Here, me and Nick will take Jaclyn out and you guys can talk." MacKenzie offered.

AJ looked hurt, "thanks, that would be great," Kirsten accepted. Moments later Nick, MacKenzie, & Jaclyn were gone, leaving the apartment full of tension.

"I still love you," Brian and Kirsten said in unison.

"God, baby," Brian said wrapping his arms around her, "I've missed you so much."

AJ sat on the couch numb, not paying attention to the happy reunion before him.

"I can't believe you're back in my arms again," Brian said in her ear.

"Do you mean that?" She asked looking him directly in the eye.

"Of course, and I want you to come back with me. I want to marry you."

"You can't be serious, after all this?"

"Kirsten, I have lived the last 4 months with you in my life, I'm not prepared to go through that again."

Kirsten pressed her lips to his, "I love you."

"Ahem." AJ grumbled from his seat.

Kirsten and Brian sat back down, "Do you realize..." AJ began, "that we made a child....you and I?"

Kirsten nodded.

"But I'm not going to marry you." AJ informed her.

"Nor I you."

"It's completely wrong, this whole thing. It's not supposed to happen this way." AJ put his face in his hands.

"Listen AJ, I want you to be a part of this baby's life..."

"But?" AJ interjected.

"But...I don't want her to go through the pain we've all had to go through."

"I'm asking your permission," Brian said looking at AJ and then to Kirsten, "to adopt Jaclyn."

AJ swallowed, "I could be Uncle AJ or something."

Kirsten smiled as tears brimmed her eyes, "Of course."

"What about when she gets older and wants the truth?"

"I won't deny her of it." Kirsten said.

"Then it's settled. Congratulations, man, you're a daddy," AJ said shaking Brian's hand.

"Listen, AJ, you might want to move a little slowly if you want MacKenzie back."

A light seem to flicker in AJ's eyes, "I want her back, more than anything."

"I'm just not sure how she feels," Kirsten said.

"Has she mentioned me?"

"Of course... I always hear her on the phone asking Nick how you are."

"Really?" AJ smiled.

*Nick & MacKenzie*

After walking through the park Jaclyn fell asleep in her stroller. Nick and MacKenzie stopped at a bench and took the oppurtunity to talk.

"Nick, I need to tell you something."

Nick smiled, "What is it?"

"I don't think I was as happy to see AJ today...as I was to see you."

"And what does that mean?" He prodded.

"This..." MacKenzie pressed her lips to his and immediately Nick responded opening his mouth to allow her eager tongue to invade him. He ran his fingers through her dark silky hair and murmured within the kiss, "You don't know how long I've wanted this."

MacKenzie pulled away slowly, "But what about AJ, it'll kill him if he ever found out,"

"Then he won't, not until he's way over you." Nick concluded.

"But it'll be so hard," MacKenzie whinned pressing her lips to his again.

"I know, baby, but it'll go by fast." Nick turned his head to see AJ coming toward them.

"I better go," Nick said quietly, he pushed the stroller back toward the apartment.

"Can we talk?" AJ asked.

MacKenzie nodded and patted the seat next to her.

AJ leaned in to kiss her and she turned her head, "what was that for?" AJ asked.

"What?"

"You ran out on me and you act like you're mad at me!" AJ exclaimed.

"It's not that...things have changed."

"What's changed?"

"The way I feel about you...it has changed."

AJ looked destroyed but something inside told him not to loose hope, "maybe if we spent some time together you could feel those feelings again."

"How?"

"Tour. Our tour has only 8 more stops, you could finish out the road trip with us, relax take a vaction type of thing."

"I don't know..." MacKenzie pondered his suggestion, 'I'd get to see more of Nick,' she told herself.

"All right, but I can't gaurentee anything, you know that right?"

AJ nodded and smiled.
