Chapter Four

I sat silently at the dinner table, as Micki, AJ, Luke, Brian, Alanah (my other best friend), Daniel, and I sat at the dinner table.

We were still waiting on Kev, Howie, and Nick. I played with a pocket on my overalls. I had changed since early this morning. I now wore a pair of AE overalls, and a black shirt. It was comfy.

"You did tell them 6:30, right?" Micki asked.

I nodded. I glanced over and saw Kev and Howie enter, and behind them, Nick. I took a deep breath and greeted the three of them.

Nick sat on the other side of me, my left side, because my right side was occupied by Daniel.

"Um, Nick, Kev, Howie, this Daniel and his brother, Luke. You guys, this is Howie, Kevin, and Nick," I introduced the five of them.

Howie and Kevin gave enthusiastic hellos, and Nick gave a slight nod. I gave Nick the. "Be on your best behavior look." He nodded at me and rolled his eyes.

"So, Nick, I've heard a lot about you. You're a Backstreet Boy?" Daniel asked, looking at Nick.

"Yeah, we all are," Nick replied, gesturing to the other guys.

Daniel gave a small laugh, "What's it like having eleven year old girls want you?"

"All ages listen to us," Nick muttered. This was not going good at all.

"Sorry, I must of mistaken you for New Kids on the Block," Daniel said. He began laughing hysterically.

"Shut up, Daniel," I snapped, "At least they're doing something with their lives."

"Are you saying that I'm not?" Daniel asked.

"Not now, Daniel," I sighed.

Daniel frowned, "No, do you think that I'm not doing something with my life? I'm studying to be a lawyer. Now, I personally think that's pretty good."

"Yeah, you get to lie, con, and cheat people," Nick said.

"Excuse me?" Daniel responded.

"Megan, I told you I didn't like him. I'm leaving," Nick stood up and began walking out.

"Daniel, what's your problem?" I barked, and followed Nick out.

Nick was sitting on the bench outside. I sat down next to him.

"I'm sorry," I apologized.

"Why?" Nick asked, looking up at me. His eyes were mixed with fury and... from what I saw... hurt.

"Because, he was such a jerk. He's usually pretty decent, " I whispered.

"Don't worry about it," Nick assured me.

"Nick, how did you know that you wouldn't like him? And, why did you give me the silent treatment because I had a boyfriend? The truthful answer this time," I questioned.

Nick glanced down at his hands. "Remember, when we were like, 16, I told you not to date that one guy, Marc, because I thought he was going to hurt you, and I told you that I liked you?" I nodded.

"Well, Marc hurt you, and I always thought that maybe if I had been your type of guy, it wouldn't have happened. And, it took me a long time to get over you. And then, you came back. And, it's happening all over again. Ya know? I mean, I fell in love with you... again... and, you've got someone else. And, I don't want to see you hurt again."

I was shocked. Was I hearing correctly? "What?" I asked.

"Yeah, you heard right. I love you. I have for years," Nick said.

I was dumbfounded, but at the same time my instincts were taking over, and I leaned over and kissed him. And he returned the best kiss I'd ever received.
