Chapter Eight

Nick laughed after I told him who it was.

“Why is that funny?” I asked irritated.

“Its not, just I dont know...” Nick said and looked away.

“Well, Im going to do it,” I said looking at him. He looked up at me, shocked.

“What?” he asked.

“Im going to do it,” I said, matter-of-factly.

“No, you aren’t,” he said, shaking his head.

“Why not?” I asked.

“Because, Miranda, you’re not like that,” he said.

“Well, Im doing it,” I said.

“Miranda, no, you aren’t,” he told me.

“I want to,” I said.

“No, you don’t you’re only saying it because of me,” he said.

I dont know why I was arguing with him, I don’t like arguing, and I especially didn’t want to argue with Nick.

“Im sorry,” I sighed.

“Come here,” he said pulling me close. He kissed my forehead and smiled.

“You’re so cute when you’re competitive,” he smiled. I stuck my tongue out at him and he took it as an opportunity to kiss me. I smiled when we pulled away.

Just then, Nick’s phone rang. He reached over and turned on the cordless phone.

“Hello?” he asked.

“No, Ginger, you can’t come over,” Nick said rolling his eyes.

“Well, can’t you tell me on the phone?” he asked.

“Fine, Ginger, but you’re not coming inside,” he said.

I looked up at him, with a raised eyebrow.

“Im sorry,” he sighed.

“It’s ok. I understand,” I said.

About ten minutes later, the doorbell rang.

“I’ll be right back,” he sighed and walked to the door and opened it. Suddenly a girl burst into the room. She looked at me and glared.

“What’s she doing here?” she snapped at Nick.

“She’s my girlfriend. Sometimes I like to spend time with my girlfriend,” he replied.

“Yeah, well. Im going to model!” she exclaimed and looked at me.

“Dont you model?” she asked, bitterly.

“Uh, yeah,” I nodded.

“With who?” Nick asked Ginger.

“You’re never going to believe me,” she giggled. I sighed and looked away.

“Who?” Nick asked, aggravated.

“Playboy!” she exclaimed.

“What?!” I shrieked.

She looked at me, shocked.

“Yeah, isn’t that cool. Well, actually Im going to be in the calendar and do a few spreads for them,” she smiled up at Nick, obviously to piss me off. I looked at Nick shocked.

“Well, Ginger, congrats, but I think you should go now,” he said.

“Why?” she growled.

“Because I was about to fuck the hell out of Miranda before you got here, and Im pretty damn horny, so maybe you should leave,” Nick snapped.

Ginger glared at me and walked out of the house.

“Whoa,” I said after she shut the door.

“No offense, I just wanted to her to leave,” he sighed sitting down at the kitchen table.

“Im doing it now,” I said.

“Why?!” Nick exclaimed.

“Because, it’s a girl thing,” I mumbled.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.

“Nothing, but Im doing it,” I said.

“Miranda, if this is the whole competition thing, please dont let it get to you,” he sighed.

I took a deep breath and looked at him.

“Im going to at least think about it,” I said.

“Please, dont do it. I dont want everyone and their brother to see my naked girlfriend,” he said getting up and walking over to me.

“They aren’t always naked,” I pointed out. Nick looked at me and sighed.

“Miranda...” he warned.

“Nick...” I mocked him.

“I dont want everyone to see you naked,” he said.

“Why?” I asked smiling.

“Because, that’s for no one’s eyes, but...” he trailed off.

“But?” I asked.

“Hopefully one day, mine,” he said smiling. I blushed and looked away. Nick took my hands and kissed them. I looked into his eyes and smiled. He leaned in and kissed me.

“Now, let’s just try to enjoy our afternoon,” he said.

“Ok,” I nodded.

Nick’s phone rang again. I smiled and he answered it.

“Hello?” he asked.

“Ginger, stop calling,” Nick spat.

I rolled my eyes and looked away. She’s going to be a problem. Nick hung up the phone and sighed.

“I am so sorry,” he mumbled.

“It’s ok. Let’s go somewhere,” Nick suggested.

“OK, that’s cool,” I nodded.

“There’s this sports bar up the street, do you want to go there?” Nick asked.

“Yeah, thats fine,” I said.

“Ok,” Nick said grabbing his car keys and I grabbed my bag. I adjusted my halter top and pulled down the Levi shorts I was wearing.

Nick and I went up to the sports bar and sat at the bar, patiently waited to be waited on.

“Hi, what can I get you two?” the bartender asked coming up to us. Nick ordered a coke and I ordered Dr. Pepper. The bartender smiled and got us our drinks and went about getting drinks for other people.

“Can I get you two anything to eat?” a beautiful waitress asked coming up to us. I looked up and saw Nick gawking over her.

“I’ll have your hamburger combo meal, and he will take a napkin,” I said glaring at Nick.

Nick noticed my sarcasm and shook his head and looked back at the waitress, “Same thing.”

“Ok, I’ll be back,” she said and walked off.

I looked at Nick and glared and then turned my attention up to the television above the bar.

“Baby,” Nick said putting his arm on the back of my seat and leaning into me.

“What?”

“I wasn’t checking her out,” he denied. I looked at him and raised my eyebrow.

“Ok, maybe I was, but you’re definitely more attractive,” he said.

I rolled my eyes and looked back at the t.v.

“Baby, you’re the model,” he said.

“Thank you Nick. I dont know how I would get through the day not knowing my occupation,” I snapped.

“What is wrong?” he asked, obviously irritated with my mood.

“Nothing, Im just irritated,” I said.

“Sorry,” he sighed.

“Me too,” I mumbled.

Nick kissed my cheek and pulled me close to him, hugging me tightly.

“You’re so cute,” he laughed.

I sighed and smiled.

“Now, kiss me,” he said. I smiled and leaned up and kissed him softly.

“Im going to the little girl’s room, try to keep your eyes to yourself hun,” I smiled and got up.

“Don’t be long or I’ll be forced to go in there after you,” he winked.

“Is that a threat or a promise?” I asked.

“Whatever you want it to be,” he replied. I smiled and walked off to the bathroom and checked my makeup. I brushed my hair and touched up my makeup, making sure I looked ok. As I was walking out, I was stopped by three men, sitting at a table.

“Hey,” one said. I looked down and smiled.

“Hi,” I said and was about to continue back to the bar.

“What’s your name?” another asked.

“Why?” I asked, stopping.

“Because we want to know,” he said.

“I dont find that a logical reason,” I said.

“My name’s Josh,” the one who had first talked to me, said. He was cute, short brown hair, dark tan skin, and beautiful blue eyes to match.

“Hey Josh,” I said.

“Jacob,” said another nodding towards me. He was the blonde one, with green eyes. He was ok looking. The one who had asked for my name in the first place finally spoke up, “Rick.”

“Well, hello... Miranda,” I replied.

“Hey Miranda, is that your boyfriend over there?” Rick asked.

“Yeah, why?” I asked.

“What’s his name?” Josh asked.

“Why?” I asked.

“Why can’t you just answer the question?” Josh asked.

“Because I dont want to,” I said.

“Stubborn,” Rick declared.

“Hey, who are you guys flirting with?” a guy asked from behind me. I turned around and saw Will standing there. I groaned and began to walk away.

“Wait, Miranda,” he said, grabbing my arm.

“What?” I snapped.

“You look good,” he said.

“I know,” I smiled.

Wait, you know this girl Will?” Josh asked.

“Yeah, we dated,” Will replied.

“Damn, what the hell was she thinking?” Rick laughed out loud.

“I have to go Will, Nick’s waiting for me,” I said and walked off, towards Nick.

“Who were you talking to?” Nick asked as I sat down next to him.

“Will,” I grumbled.

“Damn, he’s everywhere,” Nick said.

“I was just thinking the same thing,” I sighed and leaned my head against his arm.

“Here you go,” the waitress said walking up, holding two plates.

I moved so she could sit the food down in front of me.

“Thanks,” I said and looked at Nick to see if he would look at her suggestively or talk to her.

“Yeah, thanks,” Nick said, looking directly at the food. I smiled and began to eat. After we finished eating we were about to get up to leave when the bartender set down a glass of champagne for me.

“What’s this for?” I asked, looking up at him.

“The guy over there requested to buy you a drink,” he said pointing. I turned and looked and saw Will smiling at me.

I sighed, picked up the drink and walked over to Will.

“You know what is funny?” I asked.

“What?” he asked. Nick walked up behind me to see what I was going to do.

“You sure did have a problem with being nice to me when I wouldn’t screw you, in fact I dont recall you ever buying me a glass of champagne when we went out,” I said.

“I wanted to be nice,” he said.

“Well, guess what?” I asked.

“What?” he asked.

“Dont,” I said and poured the contents in his lap and set the glass down on the table and walked off, leaving Will looking into his lap shocked.

“Bitch!” he yelled after me. I held up my middle finger and continued walking out of the bar. Nick chuckled as we got into his Durango. Just then my cell phone rang.

“Hello?” I asked.

“Miranda, hey, it’s AJ. What are you doing tomorrow morning?” AJ asked.

“Um, I dont think I have anything planned, why?” I asked.

“So we can go shopping,” he replied.

“OK, tomorrow, YM photo shoot. No problem,” I said.

“Great,” AJ said, smiling.

“See you tomorrow,” I said.

“9:30,” AJ said.

“9:30, ok,” I said and hung up.

“Photo shoot?” Nick asked.

“Yeah, it’s good that Im starting to get a lot of jobs,” I said.

“Yeah, thats great,” Nick smiled and reached over for my hand.

*The Next Morning*

“Hey AJ,” I said, yawning getting into AJ’s Mercedes.

“Hey, you look exhausted,” AJ laughed. I smiled and leaned my head against the back of his seat.

“It took all I had to get into the shower this morning,” I laughed.

“I was thinking about going to the grocery store last and just going to the party store,” he said.

“Thats fine,” I said smiling.

AJ drove to the party supply store and we got out and walked into the store.

“What are we getting?” I asked.

“Anything that looks interesting,” AJ replied.

“Look at these,” I said laughing picking up sex dice.

“Get them,” AJ shrugged.

“Are you serious?” I asked.

“Yeah, why not?” he asked.

“Ok,” I shrugged. I walked to the front of the store and grabbed a basket and threw the dice into the basket.

“AJ,” I called walking back to the store, I had lost him.

“Here, I got these,” AJ said dumping some games into the basket.

“These all involve sex,” I said, looking down at the boxes.

“We’re very sexual people,” he laughed.

“Oh,” I said looking up, a little nervous and worried about Nick’s sexual life.

“what?” AJ asked noticing my discomfort.

“Nothing,” I said and pretending to be interested in some kiddy toys.

“Are you worried about how many people Nick’s had sex with?” AJ asked. I looked at him and shrugged.

“No,” I replied.

“Don’t worry. I only know about one girl and he really loved her, so...” AJ said.

“Who?” I asked.

“Ginger,” he sighed.

“Her?!” I exclaimed.

“Yeah, that’s why she’s so stuck on him. He was her first and vice versa. Girls get more sentimental about that stuff, but the reason he isnt depressed about that breakup is because he realized what a psycho she was,” AJ replied.

“Does Nick talk about me, like when Im not around?” I asked.

“When are you not around?” AJ laughed.

“Is that bad, should I give him more space?” I asked, picking up some handcuffs that came with a blindfold.

“What?! No, Nick loves being around you,” AJ said.

“How do you know?” I asked.

“Because, trust me, he doesn’t roll his eyes at you and he doesn’t avoid you,” AJ said.

“I really like him,” I said throwing the handcuffs and blindfold in the basket.

“I know, he really likes you too,” AJ told me.

“I just don’t want this to last two weeks and then we both get tired of each other and it’s over,” I said stopping to look at AJ.

“I know, but I wouldn’t worry about that. Just don’t become psycho,” AJ said.

“Define psycho,” I said.

“Don’t follow him everywhere he goes. Dont freak out when he talks to other girls, and especially don’t try to get him to not go on tour. He hates that,” AJ said.

“What if he’s checking out a girl right in front of me?” I asked.

“He wouldn’t do that,” AJ said.

“He gawked over our waitress yesterday,” I told him.

“Well, it’s ok to get a little upset over that, but dont have a spasm about it,” AJ said, “Tell him eyes look much better in their sockets.”

I laughed and AJ and I continued shopping. By the end of the party store trip, I was exhausted. AJ and I had decided to go to the mall, though, and get new outfits for the party. He bought a cool pair of leather pants and a black shirt and a black leather jacket to match. I had decided to buy a pair of red leather pants and a black leather halter with two elastic straps across the back.

“We’re going to look tight,” AJ said as we walked out of the mall holding our bags.

“Yeah,” I smiled as we got into his car.

“Now, grocery store,” AJ said turning it on.

“Grocery store,” I grumbled. AJ turned on the radio and Prodigy blared from the speakers. I grumbled something incoherent and AJ knowingly turned it down.

Just as we were about to walk into the grocery store, my cell phone rang. I looked down at the caller i.d. and recognized it as Nick’s cell phone number.

“Damn, it’s Nick. Be quiet,” I ordered AJ.

“Hello?” I asked, sweetly.

“Hi Nicky,” I said smiling as we walked into the store. AJ grabbed a cart and we started walking down the aisle.

“How was your day?” Nick asked me.

“It’s been long, yours?” I asked.

“Ok, I went to the studio for a little while and recorded some things for the new album and Im on my way home right now, so I thought I would call and see if you wanted to come over for dinner tonight,” he said.

“Sure, I’d love to,” I said grabbing some soda and putting it in the cart.

“Ok, baby. I’ll see you tonight, how’s 6:30 sound?” Nick asked.

“Perfect, see you then,” I said and hung up.

“Dinner at Nicky’s,” I smiled and put my cell phone in my purse.

“Excuse me,” a little girl asked coming up to AJ and I.

“Yes?” AJ asked.

“Can I get your autographs?” she asked looking from AJ to me.

“Sure,” we agreed and signed a little piece of paper for her.

“I think you’re really pretty,” the little girl told me.

“Aww, thank you very much,” I smiled.

“Yeah, my sister always tries to do her makeup like yours is in that one magazine,” she said, looking to the side, as if trying to think of the name of the magazine.

I smiled and looked at AJ who was also smiling down at the girl.

“Oh, well, I dont remember, but she thinks you’re pretty too,” she told me.

“Thank you, thats very sweet,” I laughed.

“Amber honey, it’s time to go,” an older woman said walking up.

“Ok, Mommy,” she said taking her mother’s hand.

“Thank you. Thats very nice of you two to do that,” she said smiling.

“It was no problem,” AJ said nodding.

AJ and I continued shopping and it wasnt for an hour that we got out of there. A long, but interesting day.
