Chapter Twelve

*Brian*

'Wow...she really likes to talk...' I thought to myself.

"And so. When I was 16, I was like, I love cheerleading and I want to do it forever, ya know?"

"right..." I said absent-mindedly.

"and so I worked hard, I strived, and now..."

"And now..." I smiled.

"wow, I've been chatting up a storm and you haven't said a word."

"I'm a little nervous, I must admit."

"Really? I'm never nervous. Well. There was this one time..."

'Here we go again...' I said trying desperately not to nod off as she spoke.

"Are you ready to order?" Our waiter asked.

'Maybe the food will shut her up for a few minutes.' Nope. Not a chance.

"And so," she said shoveling a mouthful of salad into her mouth, "When I turned 20 I was like, ya know what Tiff?"

"What Tiff?" I humored her.

"I was like... Tiff. Now is the time. Take control." She pounded her fist on the table.

I covered my face slightly embarassed.

"So...you were saying?" She asked.

*Tiffany*

'What a great date!!' I thought smiling. I stopped smiling. 'I hope there isn't food in my teeth.'

I licked my tongue across them to check. I smiled and he didn't seem focused on any greens homing in between my teeth.

'I wonder why he's so quiet.'

"So I joined the Backstreet Boys when Kevin called--"

"Yeah I read that in a magazine somewhere." I informed him

"Right.." he said, his cell phone then rang.

'God, rude much?'

"Hello? Leighanne, just...no. I'm not... you're blowing it out of porportion... no. Forget... no... Just don't call... Because... Just... You too." I caught fragments of his intense conversation.

he hung up the phone looking frustrated.

"Who's Leighanne?" I asked.

"An old girlfriend."

"Really? When did you guys break up?"

"Just now." He said quietly. I raised my eyebrows as his phone rang again.

"Hello?" He said irratated.

"Oh... sorry Bone... yeah... actually, Leighanne can't... well yeah I guess... I could... sure..."

It's so annoying to hear half a conversation.

He hung up and turned to me. "That was my friend Aj, He's in the band too."

"I know."

"Right...so um, Howie, whom I'm sure you know who he is as well,"

"Sure do."

"He's having a BBQ and invited me and a date."

"Want to go with me?" I asked him assuming that was his question.

"Yeah," He shuffeled his hands.

"Sure. Why not."

"Okay."

We ate the rest of dinner in silence and spoke sparatically throughout the drive home.
