Nov.
29th 2002: This just in - from the Internet and TWIC # 420. The match
may be delayed once more. Now it is possibly to be scheduled in late January or
early February of 2002. Additionally, because of all the violence and
terrorism in
the Middle-East, the match venue might be moved from Jerusalem, (ISR) to Jacksonville, FL. (USA) Stay tuned for more details.

informed as more details become known. (From the ChessBase web

Man vs. Machine
Jan. 23rd, 2003. It
seems to be definitely on, the first game is slated to be
played the 26th. I feel - for the first time in a long time! - that this
match will
really happen. It looks to be great fun. My (chess) "Humans vs.
Computers"
web site will have regular reports and updates.
The latest update is that AOL has joined forces
with X3D to bring you the
games, this definitely promises to be interesting.
01.2003
Kasparov is still slated to
play DEEP Junior in a match
in
New York at the end of January (26th?) ... or maybe mid-February.
Thus far
it has been a VERY bumpy road. (Click here,
and see just below.)
Questions,
questions
23.09.2002 How will he
fare against Deep Junior in the match
scheduled for December this year?
What is at stake and how will he proceed strategically? Why doesn't the
US have exceptional
chess talents and why are there so few top women players? These are some
of the questions
answered by Garry Kasparov in an interview that appeared in the New York
Times.
We bring you excerpts here.

web site.)

I would
also like to point out that this is the first (official) FIDE
Chess World Championship, "Man versus Machine" Match. Kasparov
gets like $500,000.00 for just showing up. (DJ gets 150K) The winner
gets $250,000.00. (This sum is split if it is a draw.)

CNN
and Spiegel go Chess
25.01.2003
This thing between Kasparov vs. Deep Junior in New York is going to be gigantic.
CNN has a big
report on the X3D press
conference held on Thursday. Meanwhile Europe's largest news portal,
Spiegel Online, has set up an entire mini-web
devoted to the man vs. machine
match – and even set up their own live coverage using ChessBase
technology.

February
06th, 2003: My
computer crashed, so I missed several games.
The belated report was that games four and five were drawn. I was unable
to watch either game, as my computer was inoperative. But informed
sources
tell me that the computer sacked unsoundly. (In game five.) Apparently
Kasparov
was shaken and allowed a perpetual. Game four was a Sicilian, where
Garry
missed or avoided the best line more than once. The machine was close to
winning, but Kasparov eventually fought back to draw. (More
later.)
