Married Regina in North Dakota 11/1902 and settled on a farm near Weaver
and Starkweather, Cavalier County, N. Dakota where their 3 eldest children
were born. Parents had immigrataed to US in 1876 and first settled in
Ohio but not long after, in approx. 1876 both families moved to S. Dakota.
They located in the northern part near Alsen. Another family migration
took some members of the settlement to Alberta, Canada in 1907. Here
Grandmother Senner (Kathy Shrag Senner) died in 1911 at age 72 and is
buried in the cemetary at the edge of Forestburg, Alberta, perhaps known
as Duxburg at that time. The first home in Forestburg Alta. was a log
cabin where Katie (Kay) was born in Nov 1908. There was also a sod barn
and a well from which we carried drinking water in a bucket. The place
was purchased from John Cartwright. This homestead was poor and sold at a
later date. A frame 2 story house was built in 1909. A staircase in the
living room led to 4 bedrooms upstairs. Later an addition was built
creating a large kitchen adjoining washroom, and pantry/separator room
(the previous kitchen became a master bedroom.) There was a bathtub at the
end of the pantry separator room where the laundry was also hung on hooks.
A large room upstairs was used for storage and bed space (where Gladys
sometimes chose to sleep to get away from the bustle.) It may be noted
that Regina had a loom and made a wall to wall rag carpet for the living
room in the early days. In this large country home 3 sons and 6 daughters
were added to the family. In the year 1919 some neighbors who had gone to
Oregon gave glowing word pictures of the delicious fruit and gardens to
everyone's amazement, as these were something to be desired by most
northers in these early days. So after a big auction sale and leasing of
the farm, the Peter Albrecht family was on the move and were settled on a
20 acre fruit farm near Ferndale interurban station, about 3 miles from
Freewater, Oregon. Here, Frances was born in July, 1920. In 1923 it was
decided to return to Alberta where they returned to the family farm. I
believe (writes Mabel Cutler Albrecht) it was in the year 1945 that our
folks retired in British Columbia, finally settling at Chilliwack to enjoy
"city" living and retirement. This record was compiled by Mabel
Blanche (Albrecht) Cutler and read at the family reunion around 1974.
