THE LAND
John Redding Bazemore and Pennie lived on land
that belonged to a white woman named Martha Chappel. Her home was near John and
Pennie's home. As the years passed and she 'began to realize she was growing old
and quite alone , she asked John if one of his children could stay with her
nights. As she grew more aged and feeble, she required more and more attention
and care. Finally, Martha felt that John and his children deserved some
consideration. So Martha told John that if he would continue the arrangement of
permitting the children to care for her, she would deed all her land to him and
his heirs after her death. After her death, he did indeed become the owner of
the land that still belongs to the family members.
God allowed John Redden Bazemore to live three
score years and ten plus , just as the Bible promised, if you do His will. 3ohn
Redden Bazemore died December 31, 1907. He was buried on January 1, 1908. Celia
lived thirteen years after the death of John Redden. She died 1920.
