cl - I tore this demonstrating at a soccer camp for Earlham College (Richmond, Indiana) back in 97. Very painful. Knee was as big as a melon. I was 110% 6 1/2 months after surgery.
obsled - Like roller coasters? Try an Olympic bobsled run at Lake Placid (New York) - home of the 32 and 80 Winter Olympics. You won't be disappointed.
ut - I suffered a rather nasty gash on my chin when I took a spill on my bike as a youngster. Now hair won't grow there. Scars are cool.
Dancing - When I was a freshman at Purdue University, I gave a demonstration speech on dancing. It's Hammertime! I also did an impromptu speech on Michael Jackson. I moonwalked to the front of the room at the start of the presentation.
Esther - Megan and I considered this name for our daughter Grace. Like Grace, Esther was adopted.
Feet - There is a big space between my big toe and second toe. I thought my feet were normal until my buddy pointed this out to me.
Green - During my senior year in high school, I wore kelly green Adidas Gazelles on my feet. During my freshman year in college, I wore magenta (hot pink) Adidas Gazelles. I thought I was cool. During my college senior year I purchased maroon Gazelles, but now I wear navy blue ones. Very comfortable.
Hurricane Hugo - In 89 I survived one of the worst hurricanes ever. Winds were clocked at over 220mph. That's kind of fast.
IUPUI - I transferred here from Purdue in 93. It stands for Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis, and it's the third largest university in Indiana (almost 30,000 students). I graduated w/ a B.S. in Social Studies Education in 95 from the IU program.
Japanese - Although I've been mistaken for a number of nationalities in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, I'm half Japanese and half white.
Kanzi - This is my middle name. The z is pronounced like a g. My Japanese g-ma paid approximately $50 to a fortune teller to give me the name. Although I absolutely don't believe in fortune tellers, it's a unique story. My middle name means I will accomplish anything I attempt.
Love - I'm in love w/ Mrs. Wick.
Matrix - A Top Ten favorite of mine, but it's definitely not appropriate for kids. Back in the day, I sometimes would get told that I look like Keanu Reeves. :-)
November - I was born on the 7th. My grandfathers are no longer alive, but their birthdays were on the 5th and the 7th. Pretty cool.
Oriole - This was my mascot at Avon High School. I also attended a high school in Puerto Rico where our mascot was a panther. The mascots at schools I have taught or coached at include a warrior, cardinal, hotdog (I'm not making that up), and eagle.
Patrick - A FMS sixth grader (almost out of high school now) is largely responsible for this website. Patrick made it much easier for me to start my own website. Thanks Pat.
Quit - After over two decades of biting my nails (only my fingers), I quit cold turkey a few years ago. If I can do it, so can you. I believe in you, but it doesn't matter how much I believe in you until you believe in yourself. You need to believe.
Race - I ran the biggest half marathon (13.1 miles) in the world w/o training in 2001. Not a smart thing to do. Mediocre time. Training is good. Sore muscles and aching joints aren't.
Scuba Diving - I've been PADI certified since my soph yr in hs. I've swam w/ sharks, eels, and stingrays - oh my!
Ticks - After going on a field trip to the Amazon Rainforest when I was in third grade, I came home w/ several friends. My mom thought they were beauty marks until I told her they were moving.
USSF (United States Soccer Federation) - National "C" coaching license. I earned it at Butler University in 1995. One full week of mental and physical exhaustion.
Vacation - During my fall break trip to Toronto a few years ago, I slept in my pick-up truck every night. I never showered during my trip. I was kind of stinky.
WWE - I went to Wrestlemania in 1993, and I have been a fan since my school days. I've also attended Smackdown and RAW tapings at Conseco Fieldhouse. What? I don't approve of a lot of what is on wrestling these days though.
Xray - I didn't have as nasty a break like the picture above, but I did break my wrist so bad that my fingers could touch my forearm with relative ease. I was swinging on the tree branch when it snapped. Several yrs later I broke my elbow doing a flip off a tree. I have now acquired a Chinese nickname that means cool monkey king.
Yuki - I had a dog for one year during my late 20s that enjoyed urinating all over my house. I prefer eating dogs instead of having them as pets. In middle school I had a pet rat. Her name was Socks, and she was an albino lab rat. One day I hope to eat a rat (seriously).
Zodiac - The Chinese zodiac is made up of 12 animals, called di or -tti, each representing one year of a 12-year cycle. I was born in the year of the Cow/Ox (1973). Although I find this interesting, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELIEVE IN IT.
