My father (Ernie) and mother (Tomiko) have been married for more than thirty years. Not bad, huh? Dad was born in Indiana, and mom was born in Kyoto, Japan. They met on Guam, and that is where I was born. They exposed me to many different cultures, stressed the importance of education, and have always supported me regardless of the mistakes I've made. I love them very much. Unfortunately I don't get to see them as often as I like since they live half way across the world (Avon, Indiana). Due to my father's occupation, he does a lot of traveling around the world. My mother is the office manager at Marubeni Plant Contractor, Inc in Indianapolis. They are such opposites! Dad likes to ride his Harleys, and mom enjoys making origami and doing the aerobic thing at Ladies Only.
I have a younger brother, Greg, who works for Collision Solutions in Indianapolis. He lives on the northeast side of Indy in a nice apartment. He graduated from Wyoming Tech several years ago. Greg enjoys watching movies and hanging out with his buddies.
My grandmother (June) is 90+, and she lives in Plainfield, Indiana. Although she is nearly a century old, she is in a lot better shape than many her age. My grandfather passed away a few years ago, and grandma is lonely. Of course my gramps can never be replaced, but I would like to see grannie w/ a new man. Anyone know of someone that can keep up w/ June?
Unfortunately I am unable to communicate to the majority of my Japanese relatives. We have a little language barrier - they speak Japanese and I speak English. One cool thing we both can understand is Chicken Teriyaki. Can we say yummy? Fortunately my cousin Yutaka and his wife, Kyoko, are bilingual. They now reside in LA. He is a pilot like my father. Megan and I have been able to see Yutaka and Kyoko a few times the last several years. I took Megan to Japan in 2005, and she got to meet many of my Japanese relatives. It was great to show her the places I used to run around when I would visit Japan as a child.
In this picture you see my cousin Richard, his wife Sarah, my cousin Susan, her husband Brian, Richard and Susan's parents - Betty (my father's first cousin) & Allan, and my Aunt Margaret (my grandfather's sister) and Uncle Arlie (technically they're my father's aunt and uncle). Richard and Sarah live in Carmel, Indiana. Susan and Brian live in the Boston area. Betty & Allan live in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and my Uncle Arlie & Aunt Margaret live in Saint Marys, Ohio. From time to time I receive an e-mail or letter from them, and I always enjoy hearing from them. It has been awhile since we've seen each other, but hopefully that will change soon.
That is basically my family. The Wickershams came to Pennsylvania in the 1700s from England, and I got the opportunity to visit England during the summer of 2003. Long live the Wickershams! Tally-ho!
