My Personal Genealogical Research
Jarrett Auberry
Jarrett Auberry and wife Susannah Cockerham, probably born in Virginia, migrated to Surry County early on, had at least three children, Elizabeth, who married John Smith, William, who married Martha Smith and Nancy who married William Cole Smith. These children were in Cherokee (later Clay) County, North Carolina, before the 1850 census.
Elijah Chastain
Elijah Chastain (1776-1853) was the son of Rev. John Chastain born1743 Goochland County, Virginia, died ca 1805 Greenville District, South Carolina, and his wife Mary O'Bryan. Elijah was the grandson of Peter Chastain, Jr and Mildred Archer and the great-grandson of the immigrant Pierre Chastain, born 1663 in Cherost, France, and Anne Soblet. Elijah's first wife, Hannah Adams, was my ancestress. She died in Cobb County, Georgia while living with her son, Joseph Chastain and his wife Margaret Purcell.
Moses V. Cockerham
Born before 1737 in Lunenberg County, Virginia, the father of Susannah Cockerham, who married Jarrett Auberry above.

James Goolsby, Sr.
James, Sr. was probably born in Virginia about 1725 and died in Wilkes/Oglethorpe County, Georgia ca 1798. His wife was Elizabeth, maiden surname unknown. His son James, Jr., married Sarah Pye, the daughter of James Pye, listed below.
Peter Gruber/Groover
Peter Groover was born in Germany, his wife Sarah born in North Carolina, according to statements given to census takers by their children. The majority of the family migrated to Franklin County, Georgia in the early 1800s, and were in Cobb County before the 1840 census, where Peter died. Sarah most likely died and is buried in Franklin County. I have copy of Peter's statement for a pension for service in the Revolution. I am descended from his grandson Oliver Lewis Groover of Cobb County, Georgia, who fathered eighteen known children.
John Henderson, Jr.
Born about 1750, wife Elizabeth Basnett; parents of Dorcas Henderson, born ca 1773, who married Col. James H. Poteet.
Abel Kendrick
Born about 1759 in Hanover County, Virginia, died 1836 in Hall County, Georgia. His wife was Judith Cannon, the daughter of Russell Cannon of South Carolina. Judy died in Forsyth, Georgia, where she moved with her daughter Elizabeth Beall a few weeks after Abel's death. I have copy of Abel's application for Revolutionary Service pension. I am descended from Abel's son Robert who came to Cobb County with his son Lemuel who pioneered the railroad here.
John Kerby
Died 1774 in Virginia, wife Joannah Owen; parents of Josiah Kerby and grandparents of Sarah Kerby who married George Washington Crawford above and Thomas McClure.

The Neese and Groover families immigrated to Orange County, North Carolina, and from there to Franklin County, then to Cobb.
Jacob Peck
Born in Germany about 1723, died in Virginia in 1800. His wife Lydia Borden was born 1728 in New Jersey and died also in 1800 in Virginia. Their son Adam Peck, born in Maryland in 1753, married Elizabeth Sharkey who was born 1757 in Virginia. They both died in Jefferson County, Tennessee; he in 1817, she in 1832. Adam and Elizabeth were the parents of Adam Peck, Jr. who died in 1866 in Lumpkin County, Georgia. Adam Jr.'s wife was Elizabeth Gayle, the daughter of Christopher Gayle and Unity Richbourg above.
James Poteet, I
The son of Francis Poteet and Mary Elizabeth Carraway of Baltimore County, Maryland. His wife was Elizabeth Crabtree. They were the parents of Capt. James Poteet, born 1750 died 1811, and the grandparents of Col. James H. Poteet, born ca 1770, died 1838. Col. James married Dorcas Henderson, the daughter of John Henderson, Jr. and Elizabeth Basnett above. The Poteet, Henderson and Crabtree families were in various Virginia counties as they were formed. My latest Poteet ancestor was Eugenia C. Poteet who died in Clay County, North Carolina and was the wife of James W. Crawford who also died there.
James Pye, Sr.
James Pye was born in either Virginia or Wake County, North Carolina, and migrated to Oglethorpe, formerly Wilkes County, Georgia, before 1800. His wife's name was Susannah, per the Millstone Baptist Church records, maiden surname unknown. His daughter Sarah married James Goolsby, Jr., son of James Goolsby, Sr. above. I have lots of information on the Pye and Goolsby families of Oglethorpe County.
Vilanda Reese
My biggest genealogical problem - According to stories handed down, she was left in Cherokee County, North Carolina, at about the age of 12, with William McConnell and Sarah Crawford McConnell, sister of James Crawford (above) and daughter of George Washington Crawford, prior to 1840, supposedly to care for livestock also left behind, when her family "went west". She never heard of them again, and the later generations assumed that they were killed by Indians. Since I began researching, it has been suggested to me that perhaps her family, or perhaps only her mother, WAS Indian, and they left during the Cherokee removal. She was born in Georgia about 1827, her father born in North Carolina, her mother born in South Carolina, according to her census statements. She married my great-grandfather, John Smith, in Cherokee County, which later became Clay, and died there about 1867. John later remarried Mary Jane Scroggs and they moved to Cobb County about 1902.
William Richardson, Sr.
Of Abbeville District, South Carolina, where he died intestate and left my great-great-grandfather, Green C. Richardson, who was born there in 1807 and died in Cobb County, Georgia in 1887. William's widow, according to estate papers, was named Rebecca. Other than census and estate records, I have little on this Richardson line.
William Smith
Wife Elizabeth____,born ca 1755, died Surry County, North Carolina, 1818, father of John Smith who married Elizabeth Auberry, the daughter of Jarrett Auberry and Susannah Cockerham above. John and Elizabeth were the parents of my great-grandfather John Smith, who married first Vilanda Reese above.
