ADVANCE NOTICE OF 2003 AGM

Please note that the 2003 Annual General Meeting of the Club will be held in the Bridge

Club premises at 36 St Patrick’s Quay on Friday 5th September, commencing at 8.00pm sharp.

Full details of the Agenda will sshortly be posted on the Club’s web site, but if any

member does not have access to the Internet, and would prefer a printed copy, please let me

know. Please also let me know in good time (and anyway by the 15th August at latest) if you

have any comments or suggestions, or if you wish to put forward any motions for discussion at

the meeting.

You will see that I am proposing that the Club adopts a constitution and rules for the first

time. There are several reasons for this. In the first place we are now a significantly larger

organisation than in previous years, and our budget has grown accordingly with the growth of

the annual Congress. It is only right that we should have a formal framework to be responsible

for these substantial funds. Secondly, we are now accessing local authority grant money, and

they require us to be formally established.

I firmly believe that this is a necessary part of our continued growth, but am also

conscious that not all my proposals will be universally popular. I am therefore sending this

advance notice in order to give all members plenty of opportunity to consider the proposals and

discuss them thoroughly in time for the AGM.
