The Cork Chess Club was formed in September 1990 by Walter Fitzgibbon (our current treasurer), Paul McSweeney Snr, Gordon Cadden, and Joe Hayes.
The Club rooms were initially in the 'Arcadia' in the C.I.E Social Club. The Club moved to the Cork Bridge Club premises (36 Patricks Quay, Tel:021 4509755) in 1991, and continues to meet throughout the year on Friday nights from 8.00pm to late!
The club boasts an active membership of approximately 54 people. It caters for all levels of play, from beginner to expert! The club can field four teams who compete in the Munster Leagues and many of our members frequent the many chess congresses around the country.
New members are always made very welcome! Just turn up on the night, or telephone any of our Officers if you're unsure about coming along.
