BMW R65...nice photo J

All red and shiny...not for long.

My B.M.W R65
I bought the Beemer in August 2002. 1984 model, the first one I'd looked at. To me it looked mint . It needed tax and MOT and a new battery , so there was a delay of nearly 2 weeks to arrange everything....I nearly went mad! It was a 25 mile ride home to my local garage. This was pretty nervewracking. My other bike has the gear lever on the right hand side of the engine...so it took a bit of getting used to. But by the time it had passed the MOT I was relaxing and enjoying myself. The seat height is quite low so this means maybe my wife could learn on it.

3 months down the line and I'm really happy with the Beemer. Bought a Clymer manual and spent September giving the bike a major service. I'm no mechanic but having to sort out problems on the BSA has given me confidence to fix most problems on my own. The build quality is brilliant compared to the BSA, only problem I encountered was a leaky master cylinder. Got a new piston and o ring for the brake lever from Moto Bins and fitted it myself. My local BMW garage could have got me the part but longer to wait and i'd have to collect. They offered to have a look at the problem but when they found out the age of the bike they said they would only replace the whole master cylinder....60 pounds plus labour..ouch. So I did it mysef and so far it has been fine. While doing that job I took off the handlebar fairing to give me some room and have found that I prefer riding without it........just feels better and my high speed miles are fairly few.
