Handle has a nameplate which can be engraved if desired. The original of this knife has another version of the “Spanish notch” and was made in about 1836 by the W. & S. Butcher company, whose growth was based almost entirely on sales of its products into the American market. The blade style is indicative of the early production date of this Bowie and the hilt style became known as a “dogbone” grip for obvious reasons. The Historical Bowie Series covers Bowies made in different American States and Bowies made in Sheffield. Each piece in the series is crafted with a forged high carbon steel blade, nickel silver fittings and natural grip materials as were the originals. Each sheath is crafted in top-grain leather and a belt frog, where applicable, is included. Every effort has been made to replicate accurately the details of the original pieces, so as to provide heirloom-quality Bowies to the collector.
