....ا زز الحرب
اللبنانية
Our most disgraceful time... There were many
reasons for this war, some of it was our fault and some of it was
because the Western World thought we should be the sacrificial
lamb for the Middle East. Either way, we did nothing to stop it.
It was excruciatingly painful and we lost our spirit for a long
period of time. But at least we have learned the value of our
religion and our nation and our people. Unfortunately, hundreds
of thousands paid with their lives. I call upon Allah with all my
heart that it will NEVER
happen again.
This picture was taken in 1993 from what used to be Martyr's Square. It was once lined with palm trees and was considered one of the most beautiful urban places in the world. Look what we did to it... no sign of life remained. The towering palm trees, the native plants, and the fragrant flowers are all gone. Even nature abandoned Beirut.
This building was in Downtown Beirut, also in 1993.
Along with the top picture, none of these buildings still stand.
They have been replaced by modern glass and steel. I miss the
majesty of the old stone buildings.
This picture was taken in 1998.
The building stands on the Green Line in Sin El Fil, on the
outlying edges of Beirut. The Green Line is what once separated
East and West Beirut.
The war was not limited to the capital, this was in the mountains.
Another picture from 1993. There were some gorgeous villas surrounding these buildings that were completely devastated as well.
