Michael was such a sweet child. He liked to sing. He was in the Primary Choir at Eastlan Baptist Church. The older ones were so hard to manage. He would come home upset because they were so bad they didn't have a chance to sing. He wanted to go with Ken to the Junior Boys Choir. I asked Dr. Owens and also the music director if it would be alright. They both said it would be fine for him to sing with the Junior Boys. One afternoon they had their baths, put on their clean clothes and went to the church. This was my chance to mop and really clean the house! A few minutes later Michael ran in the door and through the house. He was like a flash! I went to see what was going on. He was in bed crying his heart out. When he finally got calmed down he said, "I won't go back to that church anymore. Rudolph just picked me up and put me out. He said I wasn't supposed to be up there. I was not a Junior." It took some soothing to get him settled. What had happened was that Ronnie Twichell and some of the older Juniors (I'm not sure if Ken Parker helped!) had got out of control of the young, lovely, lively, music director. She in turn had asked Rudolph, the custodian, to help her and he had done what he could. Of course Mike could have been having a loud mouth too, but they were both pretty nice at church.

One Sunday we were in our usual pew. We would sit about the third row from the front near the windows so we could get out quick after services or get to the bathroom if necessary. It really had to be necessary if they went during services! The Long's, Carroll and Edith, and their two boys, Carl and Dale, always sat right in front of us. On this special Sunday there was an extra with them. It was a beautiful, foreign looking lady. When the services started, Dr Owens recognized all visitors as usual and called everyone's attention to Mrs Long's sister who was visiting from England, I think. She is going to favor us with a solo. She was a soprano. She sang about five stanzas and Mike handed me his program. He had written across the top, "Boy eee can she eee singing eee." I read that and almost became hysterical. I tried to keep from laughing and I knew if I looked at Mike I would laugh. When we got home we all had a good laugh, and he was told not to write notes in church anymore. I can't remember if he did or not but I don't remember ever getting that tickled. When he was smaller he embarrassed me by crawling under the seat in front of us once. I had to get up and go get him a few rows down . They were both pretty good in church though. We carried them to worship services with us. We never left them in the nursery during preaching.
