About the Author Nell Davidson Parker was born in Greer, South Carolina in 1919. She graduated from Greer High school in 1937 and was involved in volunteer work during World War II. Over the years she has written many stories for children and others for adult readers. Her stories have been taken from true experiences which continue to be her source of inspiration.

Nellie Maude Davidson Parker, 88, of Taylors, died Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greer, she was the daughter of the late Lee Jackson and Maude Dobbins Davidson. She was a graduate of Greer High School’s class of 1936. She retired from the Parker Plant off White Horse Road after 22 years of employment. She was a member of Eastlan Baptist Church for over 50 years. Surviving are two sons: Ken Parker and wife Margaret and Michael Parker and wife Patti all of Taylors; one sister, Ruby Jones and one sister-in-law, Christine Davidson both of Greer; seven grandchildren: Charlie Perry and husband Nelson, and Tanya Skelton, all of Easley, Julia Nelle Motts and husband Tate of Greenville, Mackenzie, Michael, Standish, and Cassidy Parker, all of Taylors; two great-grandchildren, Scott Cook and Tiffany Perry both of Easley, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, JR Parker, a World War II veteran, one sister Perron Lollis, and one brother, Harold Davidson. Visitation will be held Friday, January 18, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee’s Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the downtown chapel with her nephew, the Reverend Bob James, of Indiana, officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. Pallbearers will be Nelson Perry, Tate Motts, Scott Cook, Lee Jones, Eli Bishop and Keith Laverty. Flowers are welcome; however, memorials may be made to Eastlan Baptist Church, 625 South Pleasantburg Drive; Greenville, SC 29607 or Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605. |
