BROKEN HOPE

as the result of internal strife and organizational difficulties, the band has decided to break up - guitarist Jeremy Wagner and vocalist Scott Creekmore will use material intended for the next Broken Hope record as the basis for a new, as of yet unnamed, death / grind project

MY DYING BRIDE

full-time live session keyboardist Yasmin Ahmed has left the band as she cannot commit enough time to rehearsals and gigs and rather than do it half heartedly she has decided to stop

AMORPHIS

drummer Pekka Kasari has left the band on good terms to spend more time with his family

SOLSTICE

the British act has decided to call it quits as band members felt restricted within the doom genre - founding guitarist Rich Walker will now concentrate on his label, Miskatonic Foundation

March 2002

FINNTROLL

vocalist Katla has not been able to sing in recent months due to a tumor discovered on his vocal cords – the band has been using various substitutes for live performances

AGATHODAIMON

the band has cancelled the scheduled European tour with Hecate Enthroned and Infernal Poetry due to a series of mishaps

FEAR FACTORY

the band has decided to call it quits in the wake of Burton C. Bell’s announcement that he is leaving the group – Fear Factory is expected to record at least one more song, however – Roadrunner will be releasing the band’s scrapped debut album ‘Concrete’ much of which was re-recorded for ‘Soul Of A New Machine’

THERION

Sami Karppinen has been replaced by a drummer named Rickard – Sami will continue to be involved as he is the engineer / producer in the Modern Art Studio where Therion plans to record much of the next album

MARDUK

the band has amicably parted ways with drummer Fredrik Andersson

METAL BLADE RECORDS

the label is celebrating its 20th Anniversary – to mark the occasion, Metal Blade is going to the vaults to release a nine CD / one DVD Metal Blade Records 20th Anniversary Box Set

BAPHOMET / HOUSECORE

Relapse Records and Baphomet / Housecore Records have agreed to end their business arrangement in which Relapse was handling manufacturing, marketing and distribution for the label’s releases

DIMMU BORGIR

the band picked up the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen) for ‘Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia’ in the Metal category – Dimmu beat out Borknagar and Emperor for the prize

MORK GRYNING

guitarist Bruce Greig has left the band

IRON MAIDEN

Steve Harris has responded to controversy surrounding the new live release 'Rock In Rio' with a declaration that there are no vocal overdubs on the album - he does admit, however, that there was some cutting and pasting of vocal lines from that show in order to fill voids left when Bruce Dickinson asked the audience to sing along with the song

IMMORTAL

bassist Iscariah has decided to leave the band - according to Iscariah: "The band is getting bigger and with that follows complete dedication to the force. If not, you are bound to fall on your ass. To prevent this event, I quit. It is of my beliefs that if you have a single doubt, then leave."

ANATHEMA

guitarist Daniel Cavanagh has left the band - he is now playing in Antimatter alongside Duncan Patterson and Michael Moss - according to Cavanagh: "Our songs are going to be very good, and alot closer to the true Anathema of 'Alternative 4'"

the replacement for drummer Fredrik Andersson is Emil Dragutinovic

the NJ black / death band has named Desmond Tolhurst (Mortician, Malignancy) as their new bass player

GORGOROTH

the band is on hold as vocalist Gaahl has landed in prison - according to a Nuclear Blast press release, "his fist was in the wrong face at the wrong time" - the length of his sentence has not been determined by the court

ARCTURUS

The End Records has secured the band's forthcoming 'The Sham Mirrors' for North American release - Arcturus includes Garm (Ulver, Borknagar) and Hellhammer (Mayhem, Winds, Kovenant)

NOCTURNAL ART PRODUCTIONS

the label has finalized a manufacturing and distribution agreement with independent UK music distributor Plastic Head - the agreement is effective immediately and will see Plastic Head handling all aspects of manufacturing and distribution worldwide for Nocturnal Art Productions

DISSECTION

the previously announced live album will be delayed for an indefinite time period - instead, Nuclear Blast will re-release 'Storm Of The Lights Bane' including the 'Where Dead Angels Lie' EP as bonus

MARDUK w/ AMON AMARTH & DIABOLIC

the rest of the tour has been cancelled as the venues have been dropping shows presumably due to the complications Marduk has had trying to get into the US

EXODUS

Paul Baloff, vocalist on the band's classic 'Bonded By Blood', passed away shortly before noon on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at a hospital in Oakland, California - Baloff suffered a massive stroke that left him comatose with irreparable brain damage

DARK FUNERAL

as the result of financial difficulties, the band has been forced to cut Anorexia Nervosa, Occult and Ragnarok from the current European tour – they will continue on with only Tidfall in tow

THE END RECORDS / PROPHECY PRODUCTIONS

the labels have entered into an agreement that will allow them to exclusively distribute and promote each other's releases in their respective territories - The End will be handling releases from both labels in North and South America and Prophecy will do the same in Europe – The End will also be distributing releases by Listenable Records

DARK REALM RECORDS

Dark Realm Records and former World War III Vice President Enrique Chavez have joined forces - the partnership will continue Dark Realm Records as both a label, retail store and mail order – in addition, it will mark the beginning of their newly developed merchandising and event promotion companies

rumor has it that the original lineup will be reuniting for a handful of shows

SHADOWS FALL

the band has been confirmed as opener for Kittie's European tour - Jason Bittner (Crisis, Stigmata) will be joining the band on drums for the tour - Jason has not been confirmed as the band's permanent drummer, but will be replacing their previous temporary drummer, Derek Kerswill - 'Of One Blood' and the 'Deadworld' EP will be combined and released in Europe only as 'Fear Will Drag You Down'

ARCH ENEMY

at long last, 'Wages Of Sin' will be released in North America on April 2 - the first edition will reward ravenous fans with a double CD which will include an extensive booklet including liner notes by Michael Amott and bonus tracks

VADER

Shambo has been replaced by new bassist Simon (Hunter)

ARKHON INFAUSTUS

J. Read (Conqueror) will be filling in for Hellblaster behind the kit on the tour with Mortician

KAMELOT

drummer Casey Grillo will be replaced by Rhapsody's Alex Holzwarth on the first nine stops of the European tour

APOCALYPTICA

the four cellists of the apocalypse are down to three having parted ways with Max Lilja - according to the band: "Right now we are in no hurry to find anybody to replace Max, since we are not going to have any tours this spring, but we trust that the matter will be solved when the time is right."

the band will be performing two special benefit gigs at London's Brixton Academy on March 20 and March 21 in an attempt to raise funds to help former drummer Clive Burr who is suffering from multiple sclerosis

as of Wednesday, Marduk had not yet arrived in the US for their North American tour due to a delay in necessary paperwork needed from the American Embassy that would allow the band to enter the country - support acts Amon Amarth and Diabolic are reportedly playing the scheduled dates alone - stay tuned to marduk.nu for updates

guitarist Bart van Wallenberg has decided to quit the band because of personal reasons

in an interview with metaluk.com, Tom Fischer revealed that the band is currently working on a new album which will be "very unique, experimental, dark and heavy"

MALEVOLENT CREATION

vocalist Brett Hoffmann has been fired as his working relationship with the band has deteriorated - the permanent replacement is Kyle Symons (Hate Plow) - when the revamped lineup enters the studio in May to record their eighth album, they plan on re-recording a few songs from the third album 'Stillborn' at Kyle's request NECROPOLIS RECORDS the label has secured the rights to the exclusive distribution of Italy's Code 666 releases

SINERGY

new drummer Mats Karlsson left the band due to difficulties performing Sinergy's material - Janne Parviainen (Waltari, Barathrum, Jimsonweed) will sit behind the kit for the 'Suicide By My Side' upcoming tour

MERCYFUL FATE

Blabbermouth reports that Metal Blade Records and Mercyful Fate have parted ways - in other news, guitarist Michael Denner has formed a band called "Michael Denner" that includes bassist Hal Patino (King Diamond), drummer Morten Nielsen (Mercyful Fate), vocalist Jesper Harrits, and guitarist Carsten Volsing (old Mercyful Fate)

IRON MAIDEN

the band will be releasing a "Run To The Hills" single to benefit the Clive Burr Multiple Sclerosis Trust Fund - the release will come on two CD's and feature the original version of "Run To The Hills", a new version of the song from the forthcoming 'Rock In Rio' live album and additional material
