Warriors Start Off Season With a Bang, SabreCats Not So Much

It was business as usual for Domino, who averaged a, well, Domino-esque 51 points per game while leading himself and rookie teammate Sir Swish to two victories in 2007's Week 1.

The Warriors defeated the new-look SabreCats, which added longtime Warrior Dee to their 2007 lineup but maintained the same rather pasty style of play. The SabreCats shot just 31% from the field last Saturday, and it cost them. One thing the SabreCats didn't retain from past seasons is their rebounding, as the Warriors out-rebounded them 46 to 26 en route to a 50-28 win.

The second game of the day was more trouble for the Cats, as the Titans of Shooter and KG quickly found their chemistry and torched them 67-51. Shooter scored a career-high 55 points, while KG had 17 assists, good enough for second all-time in HBL history. The SabreCats improved their shooting, rebounding and defensive aggressiveness (6 steals) in the game, but it wasn't enough.

The showdown of 1-0 teams in the third game turned out to be somewhat anticlimactic, as Domino gave the Warriors an early lead, which they hung onto for the duration of the game, winning 69-54. Domino's record-tying 13 three-pointers, most of which occurred in his 39-point first half (also tying an HBL record; his own), kept the Titans at bay, even as Shooter dropped 43 points and KG came one assist from a triple-double. Sir Swish added to the effort with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals.

New Player Reveals His "Loose Balls"

2007 isn't just the tenth anniversary of the debut of the HBL, but it's also the year of Sir Swish.

That's right, after "more false starts than Shooter's had false positives", Lee aka "Sir Swish" will be joining the fray, alongside Domino as a member of the Warriors. Domino is excited to play with Swish, and as far as a comment from Sir Swish goes, we'll do you one better. Sir Swish has interviewed, well...himself, and the results are here for everyone to gawk at. Ladies and gentlemen, the first edition of "Loose Balls" by Sir Swish himself.

Upcoming HBL DVD Releases Announced

The HBL events of days past will be coming to you via DVD before you know it, with the first release being 2000's All Star Weekend, according to Dee. The event, which included the weekend's traditional 1-on-1 tournament, Team-Up tournament, 3-point shooting contest, and of course, the All-Star Game itself, is perhaps most noted for the HORSE contest, which became a dunk contest of sorts between Shooter and Domino.

This release as well as others from 2000 and earlier will be released under the HBL Classics umbrella, which will bring you all the great (and not-so-great) moments from the distant past. Meanwhile, 2005 DVDs will also be produced, and Dee is striving to have DVDs of the 2007 season available within a few weeks of when they are played.

Many of the DVD releases will be of the 2-disc variety, to allow maximum footage quality and to fit the sometimes 2-3 hours of footage each HBL week normally had. Also, Dee is hoping to include current interviews and other extras to spice up the old games. The DVDs will be availabe to players and fans at the cost of materials, which will likely be around $2-3, including cases with full-color sleeves, so they'll look all pimpy on your shelf. If you're a cheap bastard, you can forgo all that and just get the DVD itself, which will be marginally cheaper.

Dee hopes to have the first official HBL DVD releases done by Week 2, including 2007's Week 1.
