July 18-July 23 Tour of Washington, DC
July 23-August 1 Jamboree @ Fort A.P. Hill, VA

July 24 Update - 3:30 PM Central Time

Gene called from the Jamboree! He apologized for forgetting to call on Monday..things were pretty busy getting camp set up. He wanted to give an update on Gettysburg, which they visited on Sunday.

Sunday, 7/22: The bus was late picking them up but they arrived in time for the tour of Gettysburg and only missed about 10 minutes of it. They got a super bus driver and a great tour guide. They visited the Museum in Gettysburg which was really cool. They also visited something called the "Cyclerama" (not sure of spelling) which was like a circular painting of Gettysburg where you stand inside and every direction you turn it was like you were looking outside a window and seeing the battlefields from different angles. The kids seemed impressed with this.

Monday, 7/23: The bus arrived at the Jamboree around 10:35 AM. When they first got there, an adult had to take 3 Scouts to the hospital for minor sore throats. It was confirmed there was nothing serious going on with any of them, just some sinus drainage and all three are doing fine. They got their campsite set up and the Gateway is getting really great comments. Patch trading is a major deal already and the Captain Crunch patches are very very popular. They are not allowing other Scouts to come inside the campsite to do any trading, so whenever one of the HAC Scouts leaves the gateway, there are many Scouts waiting there to try and trade patches. Each Scout was given a laminated ID Tag which is readable by scan and has all of their information, including medical information, on it. The Kiosk lunch tags are also laminated and they are given one for each day in different colors. These are given back to the Scouts and when put together, make up the Jamboree's logo and will be a great item to bring home.

Tuesday, 7/24: The troop attended SCOUTOPIA today and reports were that it was "FANTASTIC"! There was a band similar to the "Blue Man Band" that played.

Several Scouts have done scuba diving already and there are a lot in the troop that are going to participate in the 5K Run.

The Kiosk food is good and very quick. Each Scout is given a ticket each day for their sack lunch and they get in and out quickly. There are several stations and they may get their food wherever is closest to them at the time of the meal.

In general, all is well and everyone is getting along great - no problems to report. The weather today is very hot and humid so they are drinking lots and lots of water. He's having no cell phone problems.
