The decision to homeschool can be a difficult one. Very few people find it easy to make that decision. Here is a little bit about how we came to decide to homeschool.
Actually, I was homeschooled myself, from 9th grade to graduation. My mom decided to homeschool my younger brothers because they were sick all the time, and missed so much school. At first, it wasn't her plan to homeschool me as well. But, the more she looked into homeschooling, the more she liked the idea. My mom also knew how much I hated going to school. So, she asked me if I would like to try homeschooling for a year to see if I liked it. I thought about it, and I decided to try. I knew that I would miss out on some things if I homeschooled. I wanted to be a cheerleader, I wanted to be in choir and drama. But to me, the pros far outweighed the cons. The first year we were homeschooled, I knew that I would never go back to public school. I loved homeschooling. I didn't miss out on socialization. In fact, when I started homeschooling, I had more friends. I was much happier in homeschool then I was in the public schools. I do wish that I could've been in choir and drama, and I did feel bad about not having a graduation ceremony, but I have never regreted that I was homeschooled.
You would think that, because I was homeschooled and loved it, it would be easy to decide to homeschool. Well, it was, until I actually had a baby. Being a parent makes you second guess everything, from the formula you give them, to what you decide about their education. We all want what is best for our children, the hard part is knowing what the best is. My oldest daughter is a very smart little girl. I began to worry that I would not be the best teacher for her. The older she got, the more I worried. I thought that maybe she would be better off in a private school. I talked with Larry about it, and I prayed about it. Larry sugested that I give it a try, at least for a year, and if it didn't work out we could look into private school. So, we tried it this year. (Marcalie is in preschool this year) It is working out great so far. I do wish that we had a support group in the Silver Valley that I could be involved in, and it would be nice for Marcalie to have friends who are also homeschooling. Other than that, things are going great. Our plan right now is to stick with it for a while, maybe even until graduation.
