Fist off, I'd like to point out that Silent Hill 2 is out and is the simple reason why this news update was delayed. Sorry, but the game is awesome and I highly recommend this horror title.
In Jason X news, the movie was shown in Hamburg, Germany, as part of the Fantasy FilmFest (FFF). Just about everyone loved the film, and it is estimated that Jason pulls in about 450 kills in this installment (unconfirmed). The rumors of this film being sent diertly to video seemed to have started here, but that rumor has since been squashed. AICN got the word directly from director James Issac:
"New Line has NEVER even thought about going right to video...
I can tell you I have met with everyone over there and they feel Jason X
is going to be a hit for them next year and they want to open it right...
So you can spread the word that is not going right to video and there has
never been any talk of it going right to video."
I really hope that this is true, and I know that all of you do too. Now, a few words about the film. I does seem to be done in the same style of Friday the 13th Part VI:Jason Lives. That is to say, it's very tounge-in-cheek and pokes fun at itself. As I'm sure you've noticed, the trend in the last half decade is to make horror movies that make fun of horror movies. Scream begat Scary Movie begat SHRIEK IF YOU KNOW WHAT I DID LAST FRIDAY THE 13TH. Needless to say, the idea gets kinda tired after a while. I loved Jason Lives, and I hope that Jason X can live up to it's standards, and not the standards of Hollywood. However, it has been said that the humor has allowed 99% of the film's gore to remain un-cut. The Ratings Board must really like a good laugh because I personally thought Scary Movie went a bit too far at times (although, not for the gore).
And the last unconfirmed rumor about the films says that the movie ends with a "Jason Vs. Predator" set-up, not "Freddy Vs. Jason." Umm...? I really doubt that it's true or anything more than a joke, but I guess that you can never really know, can you?
