Adobe Photoshop: your new best friend 

most commonly useful features to make your pictures look great..

Windows to keep open when altering pics

bulletNavigation: play with zoom in/out instantly.. useful when trying to erase/line up perfectly
bulletLayers: pick and choose what layer you want to play with, opacity: changes transparency of image.. ghost or solid. works well when you want to fit a rim under the fender of the car and you want to know where specifically to erase lower opacity to make transparent.. erase area.. then you can change the opacity back to 100% when your done

File Options

bulletSave As: instead of saving as a photoshop file.. you can save it as a jpg, gif, bmp.. etc.. but photoshop will flatten your image.. no layers anymore.

Edit options

bulletcopy & paste
bulletfree transform: choose a layer, then adjust the pic to whatever size you want.. you can also rotate things within pictures.. you'll have to click on the tool bar(has all the tool options) then choose apply, to apply the transformation

Image options

bulletAuto Adjust: instantly adjust colors to something nicer(except on nighttime pictures)
bulletColor Balance: adjust and view what happens when you play with color.. take away ugly yellow on your whites.. add a tint of blue to the sky.. make the grass greener, etc. (when you add parts to the car you may also have to adjust color so it matches & looks right)
bulletBrightness/Contrast: manually adjust brightness and contrast..

Layer options

bulletNew layer: make sure to make a new layer for everything different so in case you mess up in one area.. you can just drag it to the trashbin and other things will be intact.
bulletduplicate layer: background is usually locked so make a copy of the background and play with the copied layer
bulletFlatten image: it will merge all the layers together.. so u can save it as a regular image file

Change the color of your car... make everything else look normal

  1. open a picture of your car
  2. use the freehand trace to copy  the outline of your car.. you can make it messy.. we're going to delete unecessaries anyway.
  3. paste it to a new layer.. aligned perfectly right on top of your car
  4. click the eye thingie on the original layer on the layer window (that layer will disappear from view)
  5. now erase the extra junk.. leave only the body of the car.. also take out the the windows/headlights (so they'll remain the original color)..
  6. click the eye thing again to bring back the original layer
  7. now u can go ahead and play with all the colors of that layer  Image -> Adjust -> hue/saturation, replace color, selective color etc... have fun with it.

everything in this picture is multiple layers i used a silvia and it's rims to mold the front end to the front.. i also had to play with the color so it would blend nicer.. cut out the car.. paste layer.. erase the windows and headlights angle the rims a bit
