~THE SHADOW OF GRIEF~
Time they say will heal the pain
Joy we’ll feel again
Never looking beyond the veil
Of the shadow lurking within.
We go about our daily lives
Appear to function well
Sighs of relief are deafening
Heard within our spirit shell
Only we can feel the presence
Of the shadow that lurks inside
The ever present pain we bear
We now have learned to hide.
We learn to live in silence,
Our sorrow we deny
Others have become weary
Of hearing our child has died.
We put on the mask of being well
If only the truth our hearts could
tell
Others could see the shadow dwell
If only they looked beyond the veil.

We all face the time when
people are no longer dropping by, the phone has stopped ringing, and the
cards and letters quit coming long ago. Now is when we must face our grief
alone. This can be a very lonely time for grieving parents, as time
did not stop our suffering.
It is devastating when friends and
loved ones, fail to understand why we don’t seem to get on with our lives.
We are getting on, the best that we know how. We go about everyday life,
and yes we even laugh and smile, but always just under the surface of that
smile is sorrow beyond words.
Please continue to walk beside us,
and give us a wide
berth, we have a long journey ahead.
