SA Carp Fishing

Article No 3.

 30lbs 17.41lbs Westdene 25 June 2001

On the 21th and 22nd I was fishing at my old spot were I had such good luck, but didn't get anything only one hook pull. When I came back some of my other fishing pals was on that spot but it didn't bother me much. I wanted to try the other side of the dam for a change and it paid off. I also prebaited with some mielies that I had prepared and casted my rods with pva and Hutchi boilies.

I didn't wait long. At 10:00 my left rod pissed away. I picked it up very fast and immediately put a lot of pressure on it because it was very close to a snag. I saw it on top of the water and gave it slack. Then it started to move to the middle of the dam at a enormous speed. The fish then moved to the right again and started to come closer. Barney netted it for me after about 15 minutes, it took me to bank it. When we put the fish on the unhooking mat Barney and I released that we had caught the same fish about a year ago. It had then weighed 12 kg, but now it was 13.61 kg. My first ever 30 pounder and new personal best.

At 1:30 I landed a beautiful 17.41 lbs mirror on the same spot.

Barney had real good luck on his old trustworthy spot. He landed two 12 kilos, one 10 kilo and a 8 kilo. The other guys didn't have any action with only two small fish landed and a hook pull the next morning.
