THE CLASH OF ROLEPLAYING UNVERSES
By Aaron Lotus
Yes, we all see it, we all know it. Furcadia is alternately a melting pot
and a violent brew of roleplaying systems, universes, species, and powers.
Daily, as I walk about the landscape, I see the clash. Vampires, Vampyres,
Saiya-jins, Shadowrun, Cainites, Magi, and the occasional AD&D character
sprinkled in for good flavor. All of these are mixed together within
Furcadia because people want to play them. Even a few good friends of mine
who play vampires from the White Wolf games clash, because nobody can agree
on a system.
What can I reccomend? Oh, I have a few good ideas.
1) STICK WITH THE CURRENT SYSTEM. The COOL1-3 systems are good, effecient,
and versatile. They can be modified to fit almost any kind of character you
want to play, and most any die-hard Furcadian roleplayer knows how to work
it. And, hey, tens of Furcadians can't be wrong.
2) TRY TO GET YOUR NEW SYSTEM GOING. Hey, when a friend of mine told me
that a Furc-wide game of Vampire the Masquerade would be going down [and
that's OOC information, you people], I was excited.. excited enough to play
for a while.. then drop out.. it never really took off, but hey, you never
know. You may end up with your system being part of the norm.
3) PLAY SOMETHING ELSE. Even the best of us can't play something in a
certain place. And if you play the same thing for a while, you get stuck in
a rut. So, in accordance with the saying "Variety is the spice of life," try
something else. If you've played a Vampyre for a long time, and you're
bored, break out a mortal swordsman, or a mortal conjurer. You might find
something else you like.
And, finally, the most important piece of advice I can offer:
4) DON'T BE A MORON. I won't point fingers or write names out, but you
people know who you are. If you derive pleasure from making others miserable
or angry, be an IRS agent*, that way nobody can hit you for it, otherwise,
keep your anger-inducing hobby to yourself, okay?
*: No offense if you are an IRS agent, I'm simply putting something out for
a cheap laugh. I'm sorry if I hurt you.
And, like I say, have fun, but keep things cool, okay? Anger isn't fun to
run into online.
