PHILANCIA GARIEPY'S HEADSTONE

The first item I would love to add is Philancia Langdon Gariepy's obit from the newspaper. Unfortunately, my copy is so light that it will not photo copy nor scan no matter what I do. Therefore, I am going to quote exactly what it states to the best of my reading (eyes) ability:

THIS ONE HAD NO DATE:

"Mrs. Philancia Langdon Gariepy

Services for Mrs. Philancia Langdon Gariepy were conducted from the W. J. Arnold funeral parlors, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. M. I. Harding, pastor of Enterprise M. E. Church, officiating. The interment was postponed to yesterday afternoon pending the arrival of a son, Fred Gariepy of Galva, Kan. The committal was made in the Tubbs cemetary on the Enterprise Road."

I HAVE ONE OTHER NEWSPAPER ARTICLE THAT WILL NOT COPY THAT TELLS US ABOUT THIS WOMAN. IT WAS DONE LONG BEFORE PHILANCIA'S DEATH, BUT I DO NOT KNOW THE EXACT DATE. I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO MAKE COPIES FOR ANYONE THAT WISHES FOR THEIR OWN COPY. UNFORTUNATELY, I THINK THAT AGE HAS MADE THEM DIFFICULT TO PHOTOCOPY AND I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK CHARLOTTE SILVA FOR SHARING THESE WONDERFUL TREASURES:

"There lives near Centerville a woman who is remarkable for what she accomplishes at the age of 67 years after already having borne heroically her own and others burdens for many moons. We have in mind, Mrs. Frank Gariepy, who, after raising a family twelve children, has cared for six more belonging to a son, who a dozen years ago was left a widower. This spring Mrs. Gariepy with the assistance of Edward Gariepy, a 12-year-old granchild, is doing the farming at home and the little fellow is working out some with the team, the father having employment on the railroad. In spite of the backward" (UNABLE TO READ THIS ONE WORD) "the woman and boy had only a half acre of potatoes and six acres of oats in seasonable time and the ground prepared for corn. It has been said of Mrs. Gariepy that she has been the guiding spirit in the raising of both families. It seems surprising that she is still quite vigorous in body and mind in view of her years of hardwork, which has in a measure been of her choice, as she cannot be contented while idle."
