Featured Department:  Social Studies

Ms. Layne's World Civilization and United states History classes are involved in a county wide curriculum experiment! History topics are being taught in reverse. Students began their studies with current events and will work their way "back through time".  Hopefully this technique will make history studies more relevant and exciting for our young historians.  (more from Ms. Layne's Class...)

Ms. Dillion's Political Science class is learning with a hands-on approach.  Chris Waugh, our County Court Clerk, aided in the mock election in November.  The Honorable John Caudill shared his time and expertise with the class in preparation for the mock trials they have performed.  House Majority Leader Greg Stumbo shared information with the studends on the importance of everyone participating in the political process, especially the young.  They hold a caucus monthly to discuss important issues.  (more from Ms. Dillion's Class...)

Mrs. Hall's Global Issues class is exploring the concepts of citizenship and is discussing how governments derive their power from different sources.  They are examining the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and investigating the laws and rules used to establish order and to protect the rights and liberties of citizens.  (more from Mrs. Hall's Class...)

Mrs. Thornsbury's classes are working on writing news stories to teach their text book chapters.  They begin converting their text book section headlines into catchy headlines.  Example: "Delegates Meet to Revise Articles, But Where is Rhode Island?" The best articles are displayed until test day.

Mr. Hall's Career Work Experience Program has four new students for the second semester.  They have various jobs working at Velocity Market, Wal-Mart, McDonalds, and Cabinet Building and Installation.  (more from Mr. Hall's Class...)
