Here is a collection of superstitions concerning animals. Before you take a look though, I would like to point out a couple of things.

Firstly, these are superstitions! I did not post them here as any form of instruction. Most superstitions are based on rumour, hearsay and just plain misunderstanding. They are here for interest only, please treat them as such.

Secondly, you will find that many of the superstitions contradict each other. This is because they are taken from different cultures and it would have been unfair to include only those that concurred with one another.

Thirdly, a lot of ancient superstitions involve the harming of animals. On the whole I have left these out as I find them distasteful.

I find superstition fascinating and, although, as mentioned before, most have no basis in fact, there is also a lot we can learn from the observance of the behaviour of animals.
