Introduction

Gefax is a gui front end for Efax©. Gefax has no network support. If you need to access a fax spool (either on the local machine or accross a network) gefax will be of no use to you. An excellent application exists with these capabilities called gfax.
You will need to setuid to root on the Efax executable or have the correct permission to use your modem. I'm not sure about the security risks this may impose so, use gefax appropriately.

Gefax is designed to be compact. In order to achieve this goal, there are four "Components" of the program that open in the main window. This prevents you desktop from becoming cluttered up with windows. Navigation between the various "Components" is made quite simple by implimenting a "Shortcuts" bar. Clicking on an icon will open the component in the Gefax main window. When a different "Component" as active, the main toolbar and menu bar will change to provide the functions needed by that "Component". The "Shortcuts" toolbar will remain in place.
You can close and open the "Shortcuts" bar by clicking on the shaded area to th right of the bar. This is usefull for users with smaller moniters, allowing you to view more of the "Component".

Tooltips are available for the main toolbar and more extensive menu tips are displayed on the familiar application bar.
The status bar is active whenever Gefax is executing another program.
These help files are also available throughout the application. You will see a help button on some dialog boxes along with toolbars and the main menu. SO PLEASE USE IT!
