Wishing Upon A Star

March 23
Made it

I survived the observation and so did my kiddo, who was a nervous wreck and not herself at all. She doesn’t like the observer (who is a lovely woman but not the type a fifth grader would like), and she gets more and more nervous as the hour wears on.

I only got one criticism, which is a good thing. Now I have to do at least eighteen more lessons and zip along to the right step by May 25th, which is the last observation.

This is the longest, most drawn out torture! I have to finish this by the first of June. I want it to be done!

The two hour seminar afterwards was endless. The thing is that she is now going into steps that we have no intention of reaching so I get very distracted. It’s a fight to stay alert.

In any case, it’s done for now.

My larger problem is the fact that I’ve overdosed on caffeine and will never be able to fall asleep. I had a diet coke and a huge cup of coffee this afternoon to give myself a boost and now I’m paying for it.

I may start tap dancing any second now.

I’ll be miserable tomorrow if I am sleep deprived.

I’ve been asked to attend a conference next week on how to remediate instruction for kids who fail the state achievement testing. I guess it will be interesting. The best part of going is that it’s being held about five minutes away from my apartment AND it doesn’t start until 9!

Usually I have to drive to some foreign town and battle the morning commuters (especially if I have to go anywhere near Boston), but this time I can sleep TWO HOURS later than normal!! I won’t have to get up until seven thirty!!!! It’s like a holiday! AND the conference ends at 2! I’ll be home by 2:15 (although I’m thinking it might be a good day to go to the laundromat). It’s a mini vacation!

I may even go out after rehearsal Tuesday night.

I love having something to look forward to!

I am so not tired.

Maybe I’ll wash the kitchen floor.

Trivia: What hat is named after a play?

The fedora, most recently popularized by Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones series of movies, was originally worn by a woman. The play F=E9dora by French dramatist Victorien Sardou, which was written for the great Sarah Bernhardt, features a Russian princess who wears a brimmed, soft felt hat with a creased crown.

Cool word: natty [adj. NAH-tee]

Natty describes someone who is smart in dress and manners. It is a slang word meaning trimly neat and tidy. Example: "Jim was a natty dresser with his shirts freshly pressed and his shoes shined." This well-groomed word entered the English language in the 18th century. Its source was the word netty, which had a similar meaning in the 16th century. Netty was derived from the Middle English word net which meant tidy or clean. Natty is just one way to say someone looks good. Near synonyms include dapper, dashing, rakish, smart, snappy, spruce and stylish. There are also adverb (nattily) and noun (nattiness) forms.
