The Legend of Zelda: Spirits of Darkness

- Chapter 1 -
The Spirit of the Dark

Link sat alone on a rock in Hyrule Field. The Zoran river moved slowly past him and the grass around him was lush and vibrant. He took out his ocarina and began to play a few tunes with it. It reminded him of the days he had spent in the future, taking the role of the Hero of Time, and ridding Hyrule of its evil. He had been trying to remember more of those days, but his memory seemed to be a blur.

Suddenly he was disrupted by a loud noise. He quickly got up and turned around to see what was going on. He put the ocarina back in his bag and slowly began to pull his sword out of its sheath. The sword emitted a faint grinding noise as he pulled the sword out ever so slowly, looking all around for a sign on anyone nearby. Then, a dark shadow cast over him. Before he could turn around, a sharp object struck him in the back and he was thrown to the ground. He slowly got up and saw that it was a female spirit dressed in a ninja outfit. It was remnant of the Gerudo theives from the western valley. The spirit had a sneer on its face. Angered, Link charged with his sword to slice the ninja, but to his surprise he went straight through the spirit.

‘This is no normal poe or spirit,’ he thought ‘could it be the true form of the undead soul?’ The spirit gave a chuckle and then threw two throwing stars directly at Link. Link deflected them with his shield and they fell to the ground.

“Who are you?” Link asked. He looked the spirit in they eye and waited for a response.

The spirit chuckled, “What’s the matter, you don’t remember Link?” the spirit retorted, drawing two more stars from its belt. “I had expected more from you.” The spirit whipped the stars toward Link, which he dodged once again.

“Why are you doing this?” he asked, “Is this some evil that even the Great Deku Tree could not sense?”

“Don’t be so harsh,” the spirit responded. “Is it really I that is evil, or is it you yourself? Who is to say what is good and what is evil? No one knows the answer to these questions.”

“Surely the triforce is the ultimate of all good,” Link stated aloud.

“Wrong,” the spirit chuckled. “Think what you will, but it seems that you are not yet ready to understand my being fully. I shall leave thee, but when I return, if you are unready I will not be merciful.” With that said, the spirit instantaneously vanished from the air leaving no trace.

Link decided that it would be best to take advice from the Great Deku Tree’s authority. He called Epona and headed toward his hometown of Kokiri forest.
