Chapter 26: Other Internet Programs that Come with Windows XP
Chapter Introduction Windows XP comes with lots of Internet-related programs. In addition to the automated sign-up software, the New Connection Wizard, and dial-up connections (all described in Chapter 22), you get lots of Internet applications--which are described in the other chapters in this part of the book.
Windows also comes with these other useful Internet programs:
- HyperTerminal acts as a terminal emulator and lets you log into text-based systems, either over the Internet (like telnet) or by dialing directly.
- Telnet can also do terminal emulation over the Internet, faster but not as nicely as HyperTerminal.
- Web folders can display folders stored on FTP or Web servers, and enable you to copy, rename, and delete files using Explorer windows.
- Ftp lets you transfer files to or from FTP servers.
This chapter describes how to use these programs. You can download other Internet programs from the Internet itself; we recommend some programs that complement those that come with Windows and suggest where to find the programs on the Web. In fact, you can use almost any Internet program that is Winsock compatible.
