2CF- 2 Cable Forward

So, you're baffled by this 2CF business, and you want to make a cable veering left using 4 stitches total. Here's how we do it.

First thing, you need a cable needle. These are available in yarn stores everywhere, but paper clips, chopsticks, earrings, pens, or anything relatively flat will work in a pinch.

(Hint for those COMPLETELY lost: When something is cabled forward or back, the forward or back part refers to where you hold the first stitches, in front or in back of your work)

OK, so you have 4 knit stitches.

Put your first two knit stitches on the cable needle. Let the needle hang in front (or FORWARD) of your work.

Knit the second two stitches off of the left needle.

Either put the first two stitches back on the left hand needle (don't twist them!!!), or use your cable needle like a regular needle. I put them back on the needle for this.

Knit the second two stitches.

And voila! You've just done a cable.

Be aware... with cables, you need to give them a little bit of room for them to look really pretty. Usually wait two or four rows before trying again.
