Ohhhh...Vienna....

Viennaīs a bit boring. Itīs a pretty nice city and that, perfect for a week of sightseeing, but living here feels a bit like living in a museum. Loads of old buildings, loads of old people etc.

I come from the north of Vienna, a district called Floridsdorf (try and say that, hee hee) and live pretty close to the Danube, which isnīt very blue anymore, more sort of grey/brown-ish.

If you ever visit Vienna, thereīs loads to see, but Iīll spare you all the usual sightseeing stuff (if you really are interested in it then click here). Nightlife has become a bit more exciting in recent years. Good places to go to include Flex (on the Donaukanal, very close to the Inner City, offers everything from techno through to Indie), Arena (a bit further out of the city, full of crusties and their dogs, pretty good parties) and of course the Chelsea. Chelsea is the most important one for me, cos I DJ there 2 Wednesdays a month. Itīs located on the Gürtel, which is a bit outside the Inner City. Itīs a cool place with a wide range of beer (yum!)

If Iīm not in of these places you can usually find me in one of the many Irish pubs that have opened in Vienna since Austria joined the EU a couple of years back (96 I think, erm.... yeah, 96).

The one pub I probably spend the most time in is Billieīs Bones (very close to the Inner City), which is very nice and cosy and a good place to get pissed. Another really really good one is Charlie Pīs, which is really big and has some good music (Indie DJs) on the weekend. In one newspaper it has been described as some sort of "Irish Disneyland" which is true, cos the decorators have gone absolutely wild in there.

The best thing about Vienna is probably that itīs one of the safest cities in the world. Of course there are some districts you shouldnīt walk through alone at night, but most of the city is safe.

Vienna is often called the gateway to Eastern Europe which is true. Most of my friends from Vienna have either Chzeck or Hungarian last names, youīll find loads of Novotnys and Hrdlickas here. This has also influenced the Viennese dialect, which is a pretty funny dialect actually. Click here for a short introduction to the Viennese dialect. ;)
