Pulau Perhentian

Located just 21 km off the coast of Terengganu, Perhentian is composed of two islands - Perhentian Besar (big island) and Perhentian Kecil (small island).
Though many of the accommodation available is fairly spartan - consisting of A-shaped huts and thatched chalets sharing common ablution facilities, the pristine waters and great underwater visibility compensate for the lack of certain comforts.

Recently, however, Perhentian's first luxury resort has turned the island into a paradise of modern conveniences for indulgent tourists and families with young children.

Though diving, snorkelling, swimming, wind-surfing, sailing, boating and canoeing are pursued, it is important to take note of the strict regulations governing activities within Perhentian's marine park zones. The delicate ecosystem underwater must be preserved out of respect for Mother Nature and for future generations to come.

To get to Perhentian, catch the bus or take a taxi from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Besut. The journey should take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. At Kuala Besut's Fisheries complex, expect a boat-ride that should take approximately an hour and a half.
