Ok, this page is for those of you who don't know me that well. Here are the basics!
I was born and raised in Pipestone, Minnesota, where my parents still live. My dad is the district court judge and my mom is soon to begin a job as an Art teacher up at the school. I have an older brother, Eric, and two younger sisters, Mary and Karen. Life in Pipestone (a rural town of about 4500 people) isn't that exciting so there isn't much to tell about my 18 years there.
In 1993, after graduating high school, I attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. While the friends that I made in my four years are the best I could ask for, I really didn't like Concordia and living in Moorhead was a nightmare. I was there for record years of snow, cold, and floods. My 21st birthday was the day of the worst blizzard of the year - it was illegal to be outside that day - and I've been bitter ever since! I recieved an Art major and a History minor by graduation in May of 1997.
I knew that I wasn't interested in pursuing anything in the Art field but had no other direction to head in at the time. So I moved to Montana to see what life was like where the land wasn't flat! I landed in Bozeman where I hiked, biked and worked at a casino, loving every minute of mountain life. However, the pay wasn't enough to keep me going. After four short months, I moved to Minneapolis.
So back to Minnesota it was. Kim, my good friend from college, and I, found an apartment in St. Louis Park, a Minneapolis suburb. For a year and a half, we lived the happy life! We had a cat named Mattison, an awesome apartment and we both had good jobs. I worked at Integrated Communications, a small company that deals with phone service. While working there, I took two trips to Greece and a vacation in the Bahamas so they were very kind with my time off! Kim actually won a weekend trip for two to the Bahamas, that's why I was there. It was wonderful and I'm still indebted to her!
But all good things must come to an end. I was getting restless and that second trip to Greece really did me in. Someone there had suggested that I go back to work there and I took the offer to heart. I packed up my bags, said goodbye and crossed the Atlantic. The rest is documented in the following pages on where I went after that!
Upon my return from Europe, I went directly to LA to spend Thanksgiving with my family. I was in a bit of culture overload but readjusted quickly to American life (the excessiveness, the fast pace, everyone speaking English and so on). Then I moved home for what turned out to be about six months. I got a job at the Alternative School where my mom worked and hung out at home. I quit working in order to travel to Japan and Thailand before starting graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. I lived there for a year and a half, studying Library and Information Science. I managed to graduate (woohoo!!) in December with a Masters degree. I took a year off - well, ok, I couldn't find a real job - so I went to Africa for a few months and then moved to Salt Lake City for a while. Finally I got a job in West Palm Beach, Florida. I'm a reference librarian at a university and just love it. I bought a place of my own and don't expect to leave any time soon! Except to travel of course...
