My drive from San Diego to Vegas is 4 hours (I'm actually about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego or else it would be about 30 minutes more).

I just get on I-15 a block from my house and simply stay on it until I'm a block from the strip:

  Driving vs. Flying

   About half the people I know fly from San Diego
    to Vegas, but from where I live it's a total toss-up:

"Door-to-door" time:

4 Hours Total

House to airport:  30 minutes

Time at Airport:  45 minute

Wait to Takeoff: 15 - 20 minutes

Time of Flight:  55 minutes

Wait to deplane: 15 minutes

Time in Airport:  15 - 25 minutes

Cab Line or Car Rent:  20 - 90 minutes

Transit to Hotel:    8 - 15 minutes


TOTAL: 4 Hours


TOTAL: 4 Hours (approx)

 

Of course this is precluding bad traffic as seen in the traffic jam photos. But that happens very rarely when making the drive late at night.

Also, I just like having my car while I'm there. I'll grab a cab at the drop of a hat (like after many cocktails), but it's just handy having my own car available, too.
