I really did enjoy this book, yet by far
my favorite thing is how right after I finished
reading this, I emailed and got a response

from the author.

Keep in mind, this was 1990! Not
many people routinely had email at the
time... Heck, even within the computer
industry, where email had been around for
years, it was still more novelty than not.

But, Cliff Stoll had put his email addresses
in the front of his book... It was the first
time I've ever seen such a thing and I was
impressed! At the end of his foreword was:

    --Cliff Stoll
       Electronic mail addresses:
       Internet:            cliff@cfa.harvard.edu
       CompuServe:     71660,3013
       Genie:              Cliff-Stoll

  (The CompuServe and Genie addresses
should indeed be a telling sign of just how
  early those days were!)

So anyway, as a fellow computer guy
I decided to send him a quick email, just to
tell him I'd enjoyed his book...
He did in fact
write back a few weeks later, and I'll always
consider it my first and only "famous" email!

 Hi Paul,

Many thanks for your kind note -- glad that you got a charge from the
book ... you sure brightened my morning!

Apologies that I took a month ato answer your note - I'm still moving
to California and letters are piled up 200 deep.

 Cheers, Cliff
