Since living in this San Diego neighborhood for nine years, the following businesses have adjusted their hours thusly:

previously
now
My Gym open til midnight (M-Th) closes at 11:00 PM
E-Bar open til after midnight during the
week and til 2:00 AM
on Fri/Sat nights
last call about midnight
Fri/Sat, 10:30 PM Sun-Thurs
Home Depot open til 10:00 PM (M-Sa) closes at 9:00 PM
Borders open until 11:00 PM closes at 9:00 PM
  Barnes &
     Noble
open until 11:00 PM closes at 9:00 PM

This
just strikes me as an unfortunate trend. (Sometimes I'm seriously tempted to relocate to Vegas just for the 24-hour aspect of that town.)

But, to be fair (and to end on a happier note) here's the contra list, i.e. places in my own neighborhood which are in fact open 24 hours a day:

  • 24 Hour Fitness
    (another gym, not mine)

  • Denny's
    (restaurant)

  • Ralph's
    (grocery store)

  • Rite-Aid
    (pharmacy/drug store)

  • Shell, AM/PM, Circle K
    (convenience stores/gas stations)
