Presumably born in Fluvanna Co (VA), but not known for sure... It would stand to reason though, as he was born in 1817, and the family is believed to have immigrated from Fluvanna County to Arlington in the late 1840's, based on property transactions such as the purchase of the mill. Either his father (William Sr) and/or his younger brother (William Jr) did not write, and would sign an "X" on official documents (deeds, bills of sale, etc). Velarius always seems to have been the witness to all the official transactions, as his signature generally appears wherever William made his X. Velarius is buried in the family cemetery in Arlington. |
