Many soapers have been telling us about their shows and how much money they are making and what their best sellers are. But, I always notice, "I made $450. but I don't know if that is good or bad, "etc. Well I am going to help you figure this out. Let me start by saying that everyone judges profit and lost differently. Some crafters expect to make a killing at every show (this just does not happen in the real world) and some are happy if they just make a little over booth fee. So the way I figure it is if you make at least three times your booth expenses (this includes table/booth space, electric (for booth), parking, tolls, gas) then you have a profitable show. Your goal should be to at least make three times booth, but if no one else is selling, and the crowd is not carrying bags and you only make two times then it is still a good show (you didn't lose anything). You must learn to read the selling "signs"; are people carrying bags, are other exhibitors selling, is the crowd buying one bar of soap, or is everything selling. Everything is relative, big crowds don't always mean big buyers, and small crowds can give you bigger profits and visa versa. So shoot for at least three times your booth fee and you will at least be in the profit zone! As you become more experienced in shows and bring more inventory then you will notice that you are making 5 times and 10 times and if shows are how you want to sell your product then this is your goal.
