Supplies - Canopies
For the past 11 years I have used E-Z Up canopies.
I have used the commercial weight, this means the canopy
material is a heavier weight and will last longer. I am now at
the point of trying to decide if I should buy another E-Z Up of go
into a dome canopy. So, I thought I would list the pros and cons
of what I am looking into and what others have said about both types.
I will be talking about the commercial grade E-Z Up
not the lighter weight grade. (The lighter weight grade is the one
that can be purchased at Sam's Clubs, BJ's etc.)
E-Z Ups
-
One person can put these up in 5 minutes.
-
The older models have a very high peak that wind
can get under and flip over. (When a bad storm hits the E-Z
Ups are the first to go down)
-
There are no options for vents or skylights in the
construction of E-Z Ups
-
White coating has been added to the newer models
to prevent rusting.
-
A new model of E-Z Up has been added to the line.
This is a heavier model, strictly a two person set-up.
I saw this model at a show, It looks stronger, but the
design of the roof still worries me.
-
The commercial grade canopy is running in price
approx $545-$595
Dome Canopies
There are a couple different types of dome canopies, I
will be discussing the Light Dome.
-
One person can set-up, but polls are in pieces and
must be put together. I have watched people and they get it
up fast.
-
This structure can also be used at indoor shows.
-
The Dome Canopy can have vents, skylights and over
hangs added at addition cost.
-
Dome canopies are very weather safe. High
winds go right over the dome. You can also purchase clear plastic
sides, so work can still be seen in the rain.
-
Cost, approximately $800. More if you add
extras. Ff you add sky lights, vents over hangs the cost can
go over $1000.
I have met many long time crafters who still have the
same dome canopy. My decision is to buy a light dome. It
is better suited for heavy and long time use.
