Lighting at a show can be a little tricky, so let's take it one step at a time. Let's assume you are in a white tent, and the show is in May or June and over by six. I, myself, wouldn't pay for lighting because the sun will probably be out and soaps and such use a different sense, the sense of smell. I also always have candles with me, if it is a cloudy day light them, that draws people in, too. Now let's say the show provides the tents, and they are blue and white striped, here I would use the electric. Because that blue stripe is going to cast shadows over a lot of your booth and they tend to be dark, unless you are at a corner. The most I ever paid for electric was $125. and that was in a large convention center. Most outdoor shows that will provide electric, the fee is usually around $50.-$75. The cost of electric must be weighted with the cost of the booth, location of the show, and can you recoup this money easily. My personal opinion, if it is under a dark tent or far inside the tent, I would buy it. Find out what the wattage limit is. As for lights themselves. Over head lighting is best. Simple track light attached to boards and hung from your canopy are easy to put up and allow you to spot light special items. If you don't use a canopy but still need lights, clamp on long neck lights are the next best thing. These can be found at K-Mart, Staples etc. I must up grade my lighting, and will be switching to track lighting. Remember, the customer must be able to see your soap from across the isle. So your booth needs to look light, warm and inviting. When setting up your display, always walk to the other side of the isle and look over. Can you see the soaps? Are there any dark shadows or areas? Is part of the display being blocked by something? Carol |
