Well now, just as my dad did so many years ago,
I'll begin my journey at Flint, Michigan.
Flint was the city that manufactured 2 models of the "Flint" among others.
The first was built by the Flint Automobile Co in 1902 and 1903. They were light 2 seater runabouts with a rear mounted single cylinder engine and no mudguards. Design was by A.B.C. Hardy, who was later general manager of Marquette and then Chevrolet.
Below left is a 1902 Flint Roadster, one of only 52 built which can be seen at The Sloan Museum in,
you guessed it, Flint.
Click on the roadster to see more of Sloans Classics.
On the right you'll see a 1925 Flint. These cars were produced by the Locomobile Company of America from 1923-1927 in Flint, Michigan; Long Island, New York; and Bridgeport, Conn. They occupied an important niche in Durant's car empire. As many as 3000 a year were sold, for less than $2000 each.
This enclosed car is a 1925 Flint 24/40hp Tourer and is sporting a Michigan Historic Liscense Plate. Anybody know if this Flint is still around?
