In the 30th century, three youths from different planets came to Earth for different reasons on the same shuttle. One of the three, a telepath named Imra Ardeen detected the thoughts of a group of assassins plotting against a fellow passenger, entrepreneur billionaire R.J. Brande. With the assistance of Rokk Krinn and Garth Ranzz, they saved Brande's life.
The rescue inspired Brande to create a super-powered club, with the three youths as charter members. Candidates came to Metropolis from across the galaxy, creating the largest and most powerful super team of all time, the Legion of Super-Heroes.
