Legend of Doggainia Part 3

Good day fair heroes, new and old alike. I you would do me the honor of settling down for a bit, I will continue my story if you so desire. As you may recall, I was just about to embark on my explaining of Awakening.

As usual in moments of uncertainty, I looked over to my wise councilor to get his opinion on what the witch had said, and to ask him of this legend of the Awakening. His face was clouded over and, for the first time in all the years I have known him, a look of guarded fear was intertwined within his features. Then, upon noticing that the eyes of our small band were staring at him, the fear dissolved behind his face, though the dark cloud hung there still. Knowing that we were waiting to hear the explanation behind the Awakening and the Summoner, he started to speak without waiting to be asked.

And thus the anceint MacDougal spoke, "Long ago, before we had become civilized and learned to work together, our ancestors were nomadic group. They wondered around the continent never able to settle in on area because of the fighting between themselves whenever they tried. Groups often were created and disbanded in single days so turbulent were these times. Then one day, for reasons that will forever remain a mystery, a pup was born with the gift of magic. Then another, and another until a total of fifty of these magic pups had been born. No one knew what to make of these new pups. As they grew older, there magic grew stronger, but still we could not fathom why they had been given this awesome gift. Then, about their twentieth birthing day each and everyone of them felt as though they were being drawn to somewhere. Naturally our ancestors' thought that this place the pups were being pulled towards might yield the answer of their magic. Every dogg in the land followed their magic pup or, if they did not have one of their own, the nearest pup. There was not a soul in all of Doggainia who would risk missing out on learning why only fifty pups had been given magic. As the pups got closer to source of the mysterious force that kept drawing them closer, their powers increased, and became more powerful at every step until they arrived at the location. After many fortnights, the last of the magic pups arrived at the location they were being pulled towards, this location would some day become my own City of Yapap.

Now that all of the magic pups were present, their tails began to glow. They were drawn into a tight circle with their glowing tails facing inwards. Then, in a blinding flash of light, their tails were doused, and a brown clothed figure stood in the middle of the circle and with him one clothed in orange."

Flash interrupted Scottie's telling, "But I thought there was only one Summoner, your story has two!?!"

Scottie slowly turned to face my faithful, though sometimes impolite, friend and glared Flash into silence, "There is indeed but one Summoner, for only to one of those two figures were the magic pups drawn. They were drawn to the brown one. The brown one was the Summoner. The Summoner could control the wills of the magic pups, but only did so when it was necessary. The other figure, the one clad in orange, was to be known as The Giver. It was the Giver for whom the pup's magic was intended to serve. The Giver motioned for the pups to part, and when they did so, he flowed forward to address the crowds. He announced that from this day forth, the pups were now his. The pups would now forever be known as druids. In return for these druids, the Giver gave us unity. Each group that had followed one pup, became a separate breed and would never leave that breed. The Giver's magic, and that of druids transformed each breed into the many varieties that we now see in our land. Each breed was given its own unique characteristics that would enable it to flourish in their respective lands. Before the Giver and Summoner sent the assembly of doggs away, they said proclaimed that one day, the Summoner would return to again call forth the greatest mages of the land. And unlike this time, the fate of the entire land would depend on the chosen mages to respond to this Summons with due speed. For when the Summons is sent out, the day of the Awakening will be at hand, and only by the combined force of these druids that have been claimed now and of the mages that will be claimed later will we have a chance to stop it.

And that, my fellow doggs, is all we know about the Awakening. All except little bits and pieces that the mages of Yapap have gathered from attempting Divination in its regard. From these bits and pieces, we can only surmise that the Awakening will either bring about a permanent peace throughout our land, or else to bring destruction and chaos that will destroy us all. Which of these option the Giver wants to prevent by stopping the Awakening, we know not, but we hope that his intentions are just, as he appears to be the only link we have to an understanding of the Awakening."

As my councilor concluded his telling, I had but one question, why would the Summoner and the druids destroy my home and that of Butch's? It just didn't seem to make sense. The reason eluded even Scottie, but the one thing he was sure of, was that it was indeed the Summoner who had caused the deaths of families, for he could feel the Summoner's power.

Here is a point as good as any to conclude my tail for now. It seems the more questions that I answer, the more questions I will raise. Fear not fellow heroes, one day all shall be made clear.
