Tips

Here are just a few of the many tips that can help you build a blue ribbon model.

  1. Study pictures of the real car or plane to find the correct colors schemes.
  2. Dust can ruin what would be a perfect paint job. Paint where there is not much dust.
  3. Use decal solvents and setters to give your decals the appearence of being painted on.
  4. Decals with often silver if applied to flat paint. Give your model a coat of glosscote before applying decals.
  5. Adding extras to a model car engine like plug wires and fuel lines never hurts.
  6. Adding extras to the interior of a model car like keys in the ignition, seatbelts, and things laying on seats is also a good idea.
  7. Judges often pay particular attention to how much you put into the chassis of the model car. Adding brake and fuel lines will improve your score.
  8. On model planes, judges often look for weathering and other exterior details.

If you have any questions on how to improve you model, e-mail me at the address at the bottom of the page.
