Better material: Composite make perfect!
page1 | page2 | page3
A
lot of beginner of the MAX still forgot the importance of texture
as they spent most of times to various modelling technique which
end up in a good design on paper, but looks dull on render. This
tutorial and avoid became next victims of dull texturing :) It is
in MAX but lightwave and other modeller users can gain advantage
too as I only use basic parameter such as composite and bump
STEP 1:
In
this tutorial we will study about bricks, yup if U want to be a
serious 3d modeller there will come a time U want to make some architectural
models, from modern tropical house to an old castle U saw in some
Brit movie. We learn only about the texture so we dont need complex
geometry here. simply make a 100x100x100 (can be done easily using
keyboard entry :) )
STEP 2:
Now simply assign the standard bricks material. We use
the default bricks in this tutorial.
Use bricks as both diffuse and bump material
Now we have a problem : the bump mapping will make the light color
as the more outstanding/higher part but in the default part the
cement between bricks is white color. so if we use it then it looks
as if the bricks lies deeper than the cement part which we dont
want. How to solve this ?
simply use negative amount in the bump part, simple isn it :)
STEP
3:
Yup now we have a bricks cube like this :)
But this still looks to dull and wont make a good material for your
architectural render
If u see the wall of most house there is certain texture that make
wall of real house looks different with paper house :)
Now open page 2 to see how this problem should be solved
